It was a perfect 75 with overcast up here in mammoth today, 60 at the top! It was my first time up here and boy was it an amazing riding experience, took my bro-in-law riding for the first time ever and he went from newb trails to peak in half a day. I'm coming back every summer for sure!

Road Rode to Dawson's Saddle starting @ 6:30 this morning...it was ok.

Stayed in the 70/80's all the way to through Crystal Lake and to the top, with a couple of segments dropping into the 60's...on the descent, not so nice. Was in the 90's/100's from Crystal Lake @ 6000ft all the way down with cross/head winds.

Finished back at Encanto Park with 102 degrees steady in the shade.

Glad we started early and got all of the climbing done.

Saw a few (nutcases?) heading up on the lower slopes of 39 that looked to be suffering mightily.

I don't think I can endorse a 6% climb in exposed sunlight with 100-degree temps on a road bike...no road descent is worth that unless its in the Dolomites, Alps, or Pyrenees and involves a bottle of wine and stinky cheese at the finish.

It has been about a year since I've ridden it, but back then it was mostly good with a few areas where there were rocks/debris across the road. Nothing terrible and it isn't much before you hit Angeles Crest.

I rode it maybe 6 months ago. At one point Cal Trans was working on it in anticipation of re-opening it up to Highway 2. Then the said they changed plans due to economy and lack of funds. They fixed and repaved parts and did a bunch of work. There where a few sections that were hard packed dirt and gravel but nothing bad.
