True - so poor choice but I don't believe any service offered is free. I assume if a person is indigent they may elect not to pursue costs.

Bottom line - DON'T GET HURT!

Anyone have a picture of Rock-it they can send me to use in the Aliso Viejo Patch? I've searched my drives, but I guess I like riding this trail more than snapping pics. lol. You'll receive photo credit.

    Thanks.

Whenever we discuss helicopter rescue costs there is always a ton of contradictory info. The bottom line is that the cost seems to depend on where you get hurt or lost. Some organizations don't charge because the authorities don't want people to die because they were afraid to call because of the cost. Some places will charge your city to get reimbursed if you don't live in the city that rescued you. Some cities that are charged for this might make their resident reimburse them. I know people that got lost hiking and they never got charged anything. (I know one guy who has done it several times.) I also have heard of people who were charged a fortune. I'm sure some of it is also up to the discretion of the rescuing body and the type of insurance you have. The bottom line is that you generally don't have any other options left so the cost is irrelevant.

The hope the Rock-it person is okay.
