    Rockit takes out another one.

"ALISO VIEJO – A bicyclist suffered moderate injuries after falling along a trail on Aliso and Woods Canyon Park, authorities said.
Firefighters received a call of the injured bicyclist along the Rock It trail at 10:13 a.m., said Capt. Greg McKeown of the Orange County Fire Authority. The 45-year-old male rider is believed to have gone over the handlebars of the bike, causing injuries to his head and shoulders.

The man was wearing a helmet.
Officials have sent a helicopter to find the man, McKeown said. Some of the trails in the park are extremely steep and firefighters might need the helicopter to reach the man."

and people want the trails in county parks to be harder?

    (there aren't that many helicopters)

    healing vibes to the rider.

It said he's suspected of minor injuries which probably suggests nothing broken, he could move all limbs, was completely aware... Why the hell didn't he just walk down the hill?

The article says minor injuries... I pray so but pity the guy when he gets the bill for the air-lift out. I cracked my elbow several years back going down Mathis (I flipped over the bars)and was bleeding heavily but I walked myself out to the street so I could be driven to Hoag. I've paid my share (even with insurance) of ambulance/airlift bills - hopefully never again!

No bueno.... Poor guy...Not only did he get hurt but he really racked up a pricey rescue bill.. That being said, I would hafta be pretty seriously jacked up and wadded up hard to need to be airlifted off that ridge....

In emergency medical terms, minor can mean things like broken bones and concussions - as in non life threatening; not multiple systems; not urgent.
They are certainly not minor to the patient.

rescues are free as long as you were injured doing something legal (not poaching), no? i've known people who were lost and got chopper rides for free (always bring tip money for the pilot).

I thought the ride were only free in you are on Federal land. I think the county and state will ding your for the ride.

Airlifted out of LCWP - it cost $6,000. Insurance paid half... I got stuck with the other half...thankfully I was able to negotiate the balance.

I took (no check that I was unconcious at the time - I was placed in) an ambulance from South Coast Plaza to Hoag... that cost $800. Insurance paid half...

It's expensive if you need a ride anywhere... I'm sure you are charged for federal land rescues as well. Remember balloon boy? The government went after the family for costs...
