Upper Winter Creek? Lower Winter Creek? or the section that some people call Winter Creek that is Manzanita on some maps?
My plans changed, so I was able to get a prerain ride in today. I left my truck in Monrovia and rode up Monrovia Cyn. then traversed Redbox-Rincon to Newcombs saddle then down the Gab trail into Chantry. What a great ride - 30 miles and 4800 ft climbing.
I have a stainless steel drivetrain with no shifter cables. I ride in the rain a lot. A good wet lube before, and a hot shower after, make a world of difference. But bikes with suspension and gears and such, can be too hard to clean after a wet and wild ride (as stated above).
I have an internal geared Alfine hub for wet weather and I still don't go out of the way to ride in the rain.
It was just starting to rain at LAX when I left work this morning. Check the weather radar, the rain is coming for sure.
Late Notice: We're riding Oaks (social pace), leaving from the Fish House around 10. The rain isn't supposed to start until early afternoon... We're not afraid of the weather! (please don't smite us mighty Rain Gods)
Doug, I wish I could join you and Genny, but I'm still feeling it from our ride yesterday. I should not have done the pre-ride at 7:30am with Damon. That extra 8 miles wore me out. BTW, how do you like your new Tranny? That's a sweet carbon hardtail. It's 9:36am and it's still sunny in San Clemente. It looks like the storm is holding off for awhile.
I heard a certain someone from a certain LBS muttering yesterday "Watch, people are going to come in at (20 min before they close) to buy a bike, and they won't even know what they want. What? Are they going to go riding in the rain tomorrow?"... but it's freaking beautiful right now in LF, we'll see how long it take for it to become gloomy. And to think I was going to buy my first FS there, guess they're better off without my business. Sorry mini-rant.
