    I'm not a Grr, I'm a Mmmmmmm!

Oh and Johnny... Just cause someone posts a thought doesn't mean they are a hater! I am a glass is half full kinda girl. Maybe you should try thinking that way sometime... ya might like it. :)

It was just a shock to me. I looked forward to sailing down the fun swooping trail, like blackstar and was shocked. - I have been riding that trail for almost 2 years and have never seen water bars on it. But, thats the beauty of mountain biking for me... the element of surprise. I never know what to expect. Keeps things fun.

    Peace out!

Is there a local MTB organization that works with the land manager? If not, there oughta be. Because those kind of water bars aren't very sustainable for trail preservation (see previous post). Maybe they did intend them to be speed bumps. And in that case there are more sustainable ways to control speed too, and still have a fun trail. [I'm not local to this particular trail -- just pointing it out -- you know the saying "think globally, act locally". If it's your local trail, you could look into it].

I rode it the opposite way today. Much better! Fun to climb and found a fun single track going down.

Waterbars are the most put in thing in a trail to save it. Most are wrong and shouldn't be made. The camber of the trail should be angled in such a way that water will flow off of it and not down to a waterbar. Personally I do like them as they add to the character of the trail and add to the technical level after they have eroded some, but they do more harm then people realize.

There's a good chance those bumps/bars were put in to slow people down. A lot of people ride horses in O'Neill and it's easy for riders to go real fast on that descent. And there are somewhat blind turns.

Contact the Ranger and tell her you think the bumps are dangerous for mountain bikers. Maybe she can take a look at them and make some adjustments. I think there's a standing ten mile an hour speed limit in the county parks, and it's possible the Ranger is responding to complaints.

The phone number for O'Neill Park is (949) 923-2260, and they can also be contacted at www.ocparks.com. Or just stop by the office at the entrance gate.

It's understandable there will be issues that impact different groups in different ways. I mean, it can be nerve-racking riding up some of those trails since you can't always see if someone is bombing right toward you. I can only imagine it would be worse on horseback.

So check out the problem, and if you think the bumps are too abrupt or in the wrong place, have a polite conversation with the Ranger and let her know your point of view.

Thanks again for giving us all a head's up.

Uuuummmmmm isn't that what down hilling is all about?? :?: down hilling down a flat fire road seems awfully boring versus something that has ruts, rocks, water bars, etc? 8-[

Yes young grasshopper, sometimes it is the bumps in the road that helps us look at live differently and gets us out of life's ruts.

Believe me, I like going fast, too. Up AND down.

I'm just sayin'-- the Ranger may have seen a problem and tried to fix it.

Not funny! The rangers, already do that in some parks in Northern Cal. Skyline in East Bay and Bolinas Ridge on the coast. There are also sensors in the trails on Mt. Tam to notify rangers of poachers...it is coming to So-Cal eventually.

Article about radar use at Skeggs Point. http://www.chainreaction.com/skeggsranger.htm

Read the third statement from the bottom, you have been put on notice in LCWP already.

Like many laws, they normally don't enforce them but use it to jack with ya if they want probable cause to check ya out.
