Who is racing the Vail Lake Enduro this weekend?

On another note, for those that have done the course, any ideas on where I should take the shots for the Saturday race action (I apologize in advance to the Sunday crew, as we will not be there).

 

Just signed up. We have a Dirty Drunx Party the Saturday so I might be a bit under the weather...

 

On course this morning after the rain last night! Its gonna be great!

 

Roger and I will be there racing. We practiced the 3 courses last Saturday, it's gonna be fun!

 

As a side note, only a few short sharp climbs on the courses. Less than 15-20 seconds to get over them.

I hate mass starts! I used to race xc with mass starts and the mass pileups that resulted would have me bunny hopping people and bikes to save myself from going down badly. And that was during a climbing start - for a downhill oriented race, a bar-banging crash could be pretty bad at speed. Not worth it to me.

For some of the big Super D races up at Big Bear a decade ago, we had "le mans" style starts a couple of times. Not ideal, but at least we had wide fire road for quite a bit to spread people out. I vastly prefer racing on singletrack and Jason has included a ton of it on these 3 great stages. With a group start there would be virtually no passing possible for the first half or first two-thirds of these stages, so if a slower rider somehow got the holeshot, there goes your run. I guess you could say that's fair, but I think it puts far too much emphasis on who gets sprinting fastest for the first 100 feet, and not who is the best and fastest rider overall.

 

I'm going to do the Enduro Race. I'm willing to carpool from OC with someone. Maybe split gas and $10 entrance fee. I'm in Orange and would be willing to meet at The Path.

I'll be there. Looking forward to trying the time trial start. No more getting stuck behind people on the single track.

 

Did 6 runs today, very fun courses...

 

I'll be there doing the 12 hour course. Not ballsy enough yet for the Enduro stuff.

 

Race was good today, felt like each run got faster...

 

We are going to have photos up ASAP. Realistically it will probably be Wednesday or Thursday. I am going in chronological order with the Saturday races first followed by today's races. Yesterday we shot at the Lake on the fire road and on the final ridge line decent at sunset (both were amazing locations). Today 1st stage we were on the last rock garden before the first fire road crossing, stage 2 we were at the first split option, stage 3 we were on the jump line towards the bottom at the first big hip. All raw shots look good. Thanks for the opportunity to see and shoot some great races today. This was my first Enduro event. Had a great time watching. I heard the Fullerton Bike team took first in their class!!! I also know the two Blackstar teams did well. I hope everyone had a great time. I am going to go to work on the shots. God bless!!!
