So who's in and do you want a ride and share a room for 2 nights? Leaving friday morning, returning on sunday.

I have a large truck that I can fit 2 more people in and we're staying at the econolodge in downtown Prescot.

May go but will be staying with family either off Senator Highway or out in Williamson Valley. I need a AZ fix.

I have a room booked at the motorlodge. Also leaving Friday morning, returning Sunday afternoon. If my wife ends up having to work that weekend, I'd be down to carpool and try to cancel my room or vice versa to save some $$$. If I drive, I can fit 4 bikes and 5 people.

Can any one tell me if this would be a "tolerable" course to ride rigid?

^^ Depends on what your interpretation of tolerable is. When I hit some of the steeps covered in rocks and shale, I was glad to be on an FS.

I don't think you would die on a rigid out there (certainly the road down into Skull Valley would be a piece of cake), but it would be a tough ride through some of the sections. However, since you are even asking, I suppose you like tough rides like that, yeah?

I chatted with some locals at Slippery Pigs Bike Shop when I was down there for the Old Pueblo race.

One of the guys race it on a fully rigid bike. He said his arms were dead after the race was done.

I am going to show up with only front suspension.

I'll be going..staying at the motor lodge. We'll be leaving Thursday to have a few day to get used to the altitude--remember Prescott is as high as Big Bear.

As for the ridge ss bike, the whole niner crew ( fuzzy john and the like) last year was on niner carbon ridge forks. if you are riding the 50 proof, most of the ride is a fire road. i think you go 12 miles down and turn around and come up the same road. If you are a OC local, it is very similar to Maple Springs. The single track section has a lot of scattered rocks but nothing like Downieville.

Getting close to the Whiskey 50! Anyone know how staging is done? Do you have to get there early to line up near the front?

Ultimately the answer is yes, but find some comfort in the fact that the beginning of the event is several miles of rolling uphill pavement and it is easy to work through traffic.

    Got this news from Geoman

"The race begins with an explosive start, you climb at least 20 minutes hard on the blacktop until you hit the dirtroad and then singletrack. You will want to be in the front group off the line and I know you can hang on the climb. If you aren't near the front then folks get off and start hike-a-bike but the entire race can be done without any walking if the people in front of you ride everything."

I wasn't particularly 'up' there in '08 (more like 'back there'!...), but no one HABbed in front of me. As with any uphill ST, there were a few spots where you could pass just fine. And that pine forest is so unexpected and cool to ride. Have fun!
