Welcome dude. Advice...try many bike before you purchase. Different brands, hardtail, full suspension, new, used. Everyone has their own opinion on what's best. But only you know what's best for you.

With that said, make sure a local LBS fits you.

    Have fun.

If you had BMX skills "in the day" I would suggest not getting a strict XC bike. Look at the all mountain, enduro rigs in the 5"-6" travel range. You will have a lot more fun with jumps and hits plus you'll still get great exercise climbing a little heavier bike. My primary bike is a 6" travel 38 pound 2006 Rocky Mountain Slayer. I will climb anything on it (just very slowly) however, my bike will eat most downhills for lunch.

    Welcome fellow Venturian! :welcome:
Hit up Zach or Brian over at Bill's Bike Shop 2370 A E. Las Posas Rd. The shop is in the corner opposite that KFC. Both are way cool and very knowledgeable fellows that will answer all your questions for you. Bill's also has demo bikes (Specialized) that you can check out for $50 a day that they will deduct from the final purchase price of your new ride!($50 limit) I recommend the Enduro! < Biased opinion ;)

They also host rides on weekends for all skill levels so you can ask questions while you ride ntm introduction to local trails!
If you're gonna demo a bike but can't make one of their rides, feel free to PM me if a Sunday morning fits your schedule. Be happy to show you a local spot as well.
