I don't bring music with me on the trails. I found that when listening to music I tend to zone out and ride blindly. After a five minute song I end up wondering how I got where I did because I don't remember the past few minutes.

On the way to the trail, it's anything from Clutch. IMPETUS! Down, COC, Pantera, Superjoint Ritual, TV on the Radio or The Mars Volta.

System of down, Metallica, Incubus (early, early stuff), Audioslave, Beasty Boys. I've also been known to listen to some old school hip hop like, sir mix a lot (posse's on Broadway), slick rick (children's story). While on the topic is it a no-no or not smart to ride with both ears plugged?

I pretty much listen all types of music except mainstream rock/pop/rap/country trash. The one CD that gives me the most energy when riding is without a doubt Omar Santana's - Hardcore for the Headstrong. Warning!! this is hardcore techno music and you likely won't like it. I have probably climbed to this album more than any punk, metal, rock or hip-hop album I own.

I used to listen to my iPod while riding, until one day I pulled out the earphones to adjust my seat height and a mountain lion hissed at me about 15 yards off the trail. Obviously, won't EVER be listening to the iPod while riding in this lifetime again.

My play list change juuust a little bit over the last couple months. Damn, the Stickman put up a vid, some of you may have seen it, with Keesha's "TikTok" as the tune on it. It got stuck in my head so I tossed it on the Shuffle and a couple other tunes of hers.

I still have Zombie on there, his new album (yes he actually put out vinyl) is kickass and I still have the "Atomic Fireballs", "Rednex", "Manson", Fishbone" and "Metallica" on there.

If that scares you, look at it like this, with OUT the music you still would not have heard the lil kitty until it "perrrrrred".;)

Very eclectic tastes around here. I usually don't enjoy having ear buds in while riding, but with all the extra long rides in preparation for the CC i got used to it.

I spent a decent amount of time perfecting my playlist for the CC so I didn't have to fiddle with the ipod while riding. It worked perfect for the course.

47 minute mix of Circa Survive, Alkaline Trio, At the Drive in and Against me!
    Rage Against the Machine-evil empire
    Aesop Rock-Bazooka Tooth
Coheed and Cambria-In keeping secrets of silent earth (took out 2 slow tracks)
70 minute mix of Faith No More! (from every album)
And a A.A. speaker from the 2006 Orange County Convention.
That took me to the top of UHJ
I don't like to hear anything but the wind when I descend.

Now I need to go ride the Idyllwild spring challenge course so I can come up with a good playlist for that.

    Other favorites while trudging
    Mastodon
    Minor Threat
    Citizen fish
    !!!
    LCD soundsystem
    Tomahawk
    Phish (especially on road rides)
    Misfits
    Clutch

Since it's raining I thought I'd go through my music and add some new additions to switch it up a little. Guys/gals have any recommendations as to what you're liking at the moment? I'm certainly open to all types of music. Yes, I am a fan of metal, but I don't like death/black metal.

    - John Legend / The Roots: Didn't turn out to be what I thought it would be.

    - 10 Years: Really diggin' this album so far.

    - Joe Satriani (sp?): Just picked it up, haven't had a chance to really listen to it, but the bits and pieces I have heard sound promising.

I don't listen to music while i'm riding. When i'm driving to a ride that involves features of consequence, lately i've been listening to Norwegian black metal. It's nice to have in my head when psyching-up to hit drops or doubles.

These groups are all fairly heavy:

    Bathory
    Mayhem
    Darkthrone
    Aura Noir
    Watain
    Urgehall
    Gorgoroth
    Immortal
    Emperor
    etc.

I always start climbing with Slayer:
    1. Angel of death
    2. Raining blood
    3. Jihad
    4. Supremist
    5. Warzone
    6. Exile
    7. Bloodline

    etc

then move on to some 80s and 90s punk mixed in with some 90s hip-hop + industrial.

If I am really searching for energy I put in some Hardcore Techno like Omar Santana, DJ Tron, DJ Paul etc

When I trudge up the trail I've got one of two podcasts blaring in my headphones - "Tiesto's Club Life" or "Above and Beyond - Trance Around the World (TATW)". The Tiesto podcasts are non-stop for about 1 hour - the TATW podcasts are non-stop for 2 hours.
