What do you eat before you go on epic rides?

I eat shoes. Cows have a lot of protein, which is important to store before a ride, but I don't have time to cook a steak and have an aversion to red meat. So, I just eat leather shoes. The laces help with carbs. Remember to eat at least 2 hours before the ride though, the body doesn't process protein when it's at max load (like when riding). At that point, eat more carbs--shoe laces.

Now I get the comment in trek's last post r/t if he reads the stuff posted; he has so many questions and never checks back in after posting them?!?!?

Wow I would toss that after the first 2 miles. A bowl of oatmeal with fresh fruit works best for me.

Big Mac combo and down two Red Bulls. I supersize the combo for really epic rides.

Same thing I would eat before a short (1.5 to 2.5 hr) ride. Oatmeal, banana, and a clif bar. Then fuel after 3 hours on a perhour mix of Perpetuem. If you haven't tried Perpetuem, give it a try. It works. I rode the San Jacinto enduro (7.5 hr, 11K, 72mi.) on just this stuff with gel WOT and felt great.
