You live 10 minutes away from your house? I guess divorces will do that to you.

What I carry depends on the ride (terrain, distance, location, temperature, etc).

My "local" ride is Fully Loop or Oaks...I don't carry much there. If I have my Camelbak, I'll bring the "minimum" loadout: tube, pump and/or co2, multi tool, multi pliers, presta/schrader adapter, quickstik, patches.

For longer rides or epics in the middle of nowhere, I carry a bit more (camelback, underseat pouch, bento box, and first aid kit). 6x gel packs in the Bento Box, 2-3 tubes, 100 oz or double-bladder @ 170 oz, energy drinks in the bottles, Clif Bars/Powerbars/jerky/raisins in the Camelbak, emergency blanket, first aid kit, matches, water purification tablets, etc.

Recently I found another use for an ace bandage I carry. With a knife you can cut off whatever size pieces you need.

Much better than sacrificing a sock.

After reading this, and riding with people who don't carry packis (I've carried one for 1 1/2 yrs with things I probably don't need), I decided to try it myself at El Moro/ LC.

I put my basic's (tube, knife, tire tool, phone, first aid kit and allen wrench) into my saddlebag and off I went. I was feeling a little vulnerable and thought "hmmm, if I fall now, I don't have the padding from the bladder..." so I crawled down Old Emerald slower than usual and started the climb up the 2nd hill and that's when I found out how it would feel. Determination wasn't enough to get me over the last steep section and I lost my balance and fell left into the slope, got tangled with my bars and slid down the hill until I came to a stop in the ditch on the side of the trail, feet over my head. Nice.

Some blood, scabs and swollen parts, some scratches, a hella bruise and more determined than ever to lose the pack going forward and make that climb (it's now on my list). Come winter I'll put it back on but I'm glad this post came up or I wouldn't have tried it without.

Bare bones: tube, patch kit, levers, multi tool, chain breaker, power link, mini pump (mounted on frame).

Actually, that all fits in my seat pack and I don't carry a hydration pack unless I'm going longer than 3 hours.

Nutrition is a different story and changes depending on the ride duration.

What do you carry in your Pack

Just curious to see what others carry in their packs? I am trying to reorganize my pack, and get down to just the necessities. I don't want to be under prepared, but I don't want to be the guy with the suitcase either.

    Normally I carry:

    -Multi-tool
    -Knife
-2 tubes (26in) & 3 (29er -since most people that I ride with don't ride 29ers) I am looking to convert to tubeless on both.
    -CO2 w/2 spares
    -H2O
-couple of Mojo bars and/or pack of shot blocks
    -replacement link for chain
    -small chain breaker
-tire levers (2 wrap with duct tape for just in case)
    -zip ties
    -phone
    -hand pump
    -small LED flashlight

Thats just the basic, but depending on the length of my ride or the weather I will add other things accordingly.

You dont need a spare 29er tube. I raced my Spider 29 with the Ultralight Maxxis 26" tubes/Crossmark Tires for a while and longer rides too. Especially if its just emergency and you want to put a 29er tube back in later, a 26" will be totally fine.

Do you carry a quick link, I find that it comes in handy on long rides & maybe a vest for this time of year, cooler weather, enjoy the trails, happy Holiday's

Actually right now I am riding tubed on the 29er. My first night out I had a pinch flat and luckly I had my spare. Well in the process of airing up the spare, I ripped the presta valve off. Well guess what.....I had a back up spare. My thought is that there two wheels and should have a spare for both.

yep, I carry an extra SRAM power link, or whatever its called. During the winter, I have sleeves and a pullover.

Thanks Nancy. These were very informative.
