I broke my foot. An avulsion fracture and a twisted ankle.
For those that don't know, I work for FedEx. Matter of fact, 28 years ago on Oct. 11 I was hired.
My route is in Malibu. I was at the top of Big Rock Cyn delivering to Promises Rehab center and I stepped out of my vans cargo door and stepped on a box that I'd set outside and the box collapsed along with my ankle.
I heard a *pop* as I flailed to the ground and then I laid there in a fetal position waiting to see if the pain would get worse. Which it did.
My hair turned completely white and my cool little FedEx uniform suddenly became a house dress and I looked up and yelled;"HELP! I've fallen and I can't get up".
I think it was time for the morning Methadone fix and group session because nobody came out. And I didn't really say 'help I've fallen blablabla'. I yelled; "You effin stoners get out here and help me". OK, not that either. "Anyone in there?" a couple times.
I put the packages back in the van (lates) and dragged myself to the drivers seat and drove down the road to PCH. Like 15 minutes to get down. Called a manager to meet me at emergency and then proceeded to get really nauseous.
I pulled in to a fire station to see if they could help but they weren't there. Figures.
Got to emergency and then hung out for a few hours.
Saw an ortho yesterday and he gave me a black bootie. Hugh! Wanna see it?
Off work 6 to 8 weeks. Can pedal with flat pedal on road bike in a week or two.
    Let pain be my guide.
I'll be back at work in mid December. Just in time for the christmas rush.
There was another woman at the hospital that had a brokrn ankle or sprain from wearing CFMP's that collapsed. Y'know, high heels.
So pics would be lame. Black boot or swollen ugly foot that hasn't been washed in 3 days. No nail polish. I'm not as fem as Quinn y'know.
Plenty of time to do old ride reports though.
See ya in a couple weeks!

Damn Liz. Big bummer! Sounds painful as hell the way you described it. Hope the recovery goes quickly. I'm sure like most who are down while injured want to hurry back before completely healing like I did with my broken rib and went to Fruita(oops), but know know better ; ) Heal fast and I look forward to reading some of your old ride reports.

BTW, I have a package coming on FedEx hopefully soon. Says it Departed FedEx location, Oct-14-10, 14:23 PM, HENDERSON, CO. Can't wait!

Sorry to hear about your injury. It's always a chain of events that lead to an accident. :-( The only good news is that you didn't have used hypodermic needles pointing up in that box you set outside your door. ;-)

Really sorry to read this on FB. Let me know if you need someone to come over and paint your toenails.

You haven't washed your feet in 3 days??!!! (where's that icon of the smiley face hurling?)

Good lord, girl. At the very least have one of those 32 Bichons you and Jeanine have rescued paint your toenails for you! Gotta earn their keep somehow. I do not, however, recommend you recruit Munchie, the blind one. But if you have one that's lost his sense of smell, I'd pick that one.

Call me if you need anything. But only if it's reaallllly important.

Finally the whole story! We've been wondering how it happened and figured it must have been a lame situation since you were holding out :)
Healing vibes heading your way and can't wait to see the RR!

Doesn't Margo work? She can come over after work I guess.

Liz, we were coming up with all sorts of stories as to how you broke your ankle! Sorry you did, cuz that sucks. But I promise while you're recovering from your accident, I won't plan any cool road trips to some cool mtb destination...just sayin'!

    Healing vibes to ya!

Hugs for speedy recovery - I think a spa pedicure is in your near future!

...and who knows, you might learn to like those 'flat' pedals after all. ;)

yikes....healing vibes to you......if its any consolation, you are not the first mountain biker that has broken an ankle doing something other than mountain biking.......I know one rider who broke his while trimming a tree (and he is a freaking MD, and he was out there trimming his own tree LOL)

Another rider I know broke her ankle when she tried to avoid stepping on her cat while bring in groceries......

Get well soon! Last time I got injured, the pain of not riding hurt more than the pain of the injury :(
