Great ride last night! almost 4 years since I've done that trail... those concrete block things are EVIL! I almost ate it on the first set of those.

Thanks again for lighting the trail for me, I really expected that two headlamps and a handlebar lamp would be more than sufficient, as that would be overkill for hiking - but it was crap for night biking.

Sooooooo.... what lights were you guys running? Any recommendations? Thanks!

Happy to hear that you folks had a fun ride last night.

As for lights, I recently purchased the Exposure MaXx-D Mk.4 and highly recommend it as a bar-mount. At 1285 lumens, it’s the brightest light I’ve ever owned. Really nice unit, all in one can with a cool quick release bracket, no separate battery or wires to deal with. I really don’t feel the need to add a helmet light, but it would be nice to be able to peek around corners when riding tight singletrack in the dark.

If I was in the market for a helmet mount, I would definitely go with the Exposure Diablo Mk.3. 975 lumens, and only 124 grams. Also a cable free design.

Kinda spendy, I know, but worth it if you do a lot of night riding.

I'm far from a light expert but I use DiNotte lights (http://www.dinottelighting.com/Guidance.htm). Their customer service is excellent, good build quality, replacement batteries are cheap, good run times, made in the USA, and they often times offer trade ins for upgrades. I run the 400L & and 800L. (The 800L has now been replaced by the XML-3.)

Here's a source for more research for you: http://reviews.mtbr.com/2012-bike-lights-shootout Check out the DiNotte XML-3. There are lots of good lights out there, I've just become a fan of DiNotte because my entire experience with the company and lights have been good.

I was thinking that I am a dweeb, I get home from riding and plug my bike battery pack in, and my helmet light batt pack too. I do this every evening when I get back. It makes me feel like I am an east coaster, they plug in their cars before bed. In the morning I wake up and unplug the packs.
Night riding is pretty sweet, tonight a giant full moon came up, you could see the disk peek out from behind the distant ridge. We do not have restrictions on night riding here, last night I saw a dude climbing space mtn open space lands at 8:20 PM. Very dedicated rider for sure.
    Happy Trails

I'll check this thread at about 6:30pm tonight in case there are any last minute changes. I'm looking forward to getting a spin in tonight!

Roll call time...I know beachcruiser and w8tup are out this week. If we can get a consensus from the group let's add some miles. Maybe meeting up at Bayliss/Queensferry and dropping the Horsetrail down to Sunset, then over to Capri and up Sullivan's Fire Rd and back out the Canyon? We have many options, but drop a line if you intend to join us.

I am going to try and get a ride in tomorrow but I will be starting from the valley side with my brother in law. I also have no clue when I will be starting (have to make sure the kids are asleep before I can go play). Depending on what route you guys take I might meet up with you guys at some point on the trail.
