I'm dealing with my own broken wrist myself. Had surgery two days ago. Comminuted distal radius fracture.

It is amazing how many different ways there are to break your wrist. I've broke both arms in four different ways now... but that wasn't one of them.

Oh and the pain killers are great aren't they?

Well, I think it all depends on how you tend to land. I seem to FOOSH a lot, maybe you land differently.

Stiches came out on Tuesday and I'm casted until November 3rd. Looks like I won't be racing until the Dam Cold race for the new year.

Trying hard to stay in shape until this damn cast comes off, but until then... :drunk:

Heh...I'm in a cast till Nov 9 myself. It's amazing how well we can adapt to an injury. I'm shaving left-handed (yes I'm a rightie) and have yet to cut my jugular.

Cut my cast off today, two days early. Extremely unfortunate circumstances led me to do it, but it is nice to finally be free of it.

If anyone who has been in an arm cast can comment on their physical therapy post-cast I'd appreciate it.

They did nerve block me at the shoulder. I was pretty high on verced when they were doing the block, but remember it very well. They did ultrasound through my armpit while probing for the nerve clusters through the front of my shoulder. The needle would electrically stimulate the nerves and cause different muscle groups to pulsate. Once they identified the right nerves they would numb them. The block didn't take right away so they put me under, but when I woke up it was completely numb. Like no more arm numb. I got feeling back one section/muscle group at a time. The first muscle to come to life was my bicep right before I went to bed the night after the surgery. Totally unfortunate because I was laying on my back, picked up my arm and then realized I had no extension muscles and dropped my plaster casted arm right into my face.#-o

Staying numb for 8 hours was a bonus though, I never had to deal with any serious pain.

What is the name/purpose/cost of the neck/shoulder brace that is shown in the pic of this thread's first entry? Is this level of gear common?

It is the Leatt Adventure brace. A helmet for your neck, and only common for those that don't enjoy being paralyzed for the rest of our lives. See a couple threads in this forum related to severe neck injuries and you might consider one for yourself.

Just seeing that picture makes me cringe! I went down and tore up my knee about two months ago,and I can remember standing up thinking O.K. this is bad, then wanting to throw up :) Hope all is well
