My full report is in the VQ/CC thread. Here's the short version, and some pix for you all.
I was going faster than I usually do coming down UHJ during VQ yesterday. I think my front tire got caught up in a rut or something, I flew off the bike onto, what I think was, a cut branch in the ground. Assessed the damage and saw a lot of blood oozing out of what looked like a 2" laceration on my right arm, with a bunch of soft tissue coming out of it. Thank you to the woman and her husband (I think) who were kind enough to stop, get me bandaged up, and make sure I was ok to walk. Made it down to the bottom of HJ, to Aid Station 2, where I was well taken care of by EMT Robert (aka SQRRRL), while my very worried husband rode out to get the car. I spent 5 hrs in the ER. I've been very blessed to have this be my 1st bike-related ER trip. They used a funky attachment to flush my arm w/ saline. It's the strangest feeling. The doctor got 18 stitches put in, 7 internal, as the cut was over knuckle-deep, 11 external. He glared at me when I asked him,"So, how long till I can get back on the bike?". On with the pix.....

I'm sqeamish, but I had to look. My wife and her little sister thought the gooey's were cool.

That looks like a puncture, how did it happen?

Regardless - healing vibes to ya.

Sheesh, ya wimp. You mean you could not have ridden another 25 miles with body tissue sticking out of you? ;) Girls...

You held up well, krunner. I had no idea how bad of a cut it was when I passed you on HJ and you asked me to warn your hubby. Hell, I can't believe you told me to keep going! I'm glad you made it down safely.

Hope you heal up soon. You are a monster on that SS!

We were more than a little worried about you at Aid Station #2. I didn't like that glassy eyed look. Glad everything turned out OK in the ER. Unfortunately, this may not be your last visit there. We mountain bikers seem to spend a lot to time there... Heal quickly, grasshopper... I know you will be back on the bike long before your doctor thinks you should!
