I just posted a training ride up Black Star to MW on Sat, Dec 20. This is a re-schedule from the one I had posted but got cancelled due to Maple Springs clean up. If you have any questions, please ask. This is a trining ride and you will be expected to keep up. The pace will be at Counting Coup pace which will be about a 3.5 hr ride.

I will be doing some traing rides during the week. PM me to find out when.

What a great weekend of riding...this ride followed by the Tour de Gabrieleno Trail on Sunday. As it stands I'm planning to do both, good thing my family is coming the week after so I'll have an excuse to recover.

At least the last 7 miles are mostly downhill :).

I take it as 3hrs gate to bottom of Motorway--is that correct? I don't think you'd be way off--it takes some time to get around that road.

I wish that were the case...but I started my computer at the gate and ride time was 3 hrs 45 mins to the bottom of Motorway.

Rach is right, I meant gate to the bottom of MW should be about 3 hrs with a 1 hr cushion. I edited the time to 3.5 with breaks. You'll be fine. The key is to make the 4 hr cutoff at the bottom of MW. You're well within that. My goal is to show those who have not done this section the pace that's needed to make the cutoff.

By comparison, when I start to do VQ pace, I will chop 30 min off and then an hour.

With as many rides as we're all trying to get in, I may be OK by Dec. 20 for a 3.5 hour ride. Last Saturday was the first time I'd been on that route for 3 years...did OK on the climb up Blackstar, and then fell apart on the the MD.

Oh man! I forgot how much climbing there is between the top of Black Star and the Motorway. Ugh... I rode it yesterday rigid SS and pretty much walked all the climbs starting the the climb up to the golf ball from Black Star. My legs were spent by the time I made it to top of the MW. I hit Maple Springs at 2:53.

    Here's my ride:

    I'm in blue.

--- UPDATE: I guess it changes colors, so I'm not always blue. Look for: anthony_coley

Careful kids. Just did this loop on Sat. and the Moto riders I think aren't used to bikes being out there. I almost had a head on with a moto guy gunning it up around a blind corner. Can't say I wasn't totally without out fault as I was probably going 15-20 down the same bend.

But he didn't change his riding style as several people behind me had near misses with the same rider.
