My frustration was not directed towards you or anyone planning this event. We all appreciate the efforts.
Sorry if it came out that way.

Yup, total BS! We all pay taxes and then in addition we need an adventure pass to access the national forrest. Now on top of that another special permit and insurance is required to lead a "training ride" through land that is now off limits to the majority of people who pay to support it.

I think the forrest service is sending the wrong message here. I can see how a guided tour of the area would be beneficial but a training ride? What about the noise? What about the wildlife that was run out of the areas because of the fires. I'm sure they will enjoy a hundred or so people flying through the area over the next couple of days.

BTW. This is not a bash against the WS but just my opinion. Closed should be closed, not just closed to the majority of the people who pay to support it.

In years past, I have worked for and with the Forest Service. It seems like the more remote the area the easier they are to work with.

In all areas of law inforcement in So-cal they treat us like we are stupid...well look around at much of the population. Sad they set policy to the least common denominator.

I am sad that something seemingly so simple has become a mess. Last weekend I rode thru the burnt Tecate Forest and wondered why Pipeline Road is open and other sections not. I do not accept the Forest Services weak explainations.

    Pat,

I understand feeling like you are getting ripped off on tax dollars. The forestry service has the same problem with billions of dollars going overseas instead of into their coffers. I think there is wisdom permitting people who maintain the trails to get to work cleaning up the left over mess. Personally I think it indulgent to only ride without lifting a finger in the interest of trail safety. However instead of pointing one I choose to ride with a pair of loppers in my camelbak. I have the utmost faith that the participants of this ride are in good hands and feel there should be a bit more courtesy toward them for providing the privilege to the general public.

God speed good Shepard's and keep it safe.

Don't just show up. For those who did not get in, you can ride your own ride, but will not be able to go past the closure area that starts just past Eagle Rd. You will have to RSVP and be among the 50 or so in order to to do that. Thanks, hope to see you tomorrow.

I will activate the RSVP function tonight when most will be at home and have equal chance to get in. I will then PM those who are in with info they need as we are limited to how many can go. I wish I can take all comers, but the FS has capped us off at 60 and that NOW includes the guides.

Note: The route was changed to only going to the peak and back. I updated the poll to show that. I know most wanted to do a much longer ride, but it's out of my hands. I'm just glad this didn't get dropped all together. Agree or not, please adhere to the rules set by the FS so maybe we can do more in the coming months with less restrictions. Thanks for your patience.

Poor Gene, you are so good to us and so patient! Thank you for everything (in advance, in case we don't get in tonight and can't thank you in person) :)

Does all this mean the the CC and VQ are going to be really strict like this? Like having to stick to a group and what not. Are we going to need to be in small groups each with a guide or is it a go on your own type of thing. Anyone know?

Gene, big Thanks for trying to and finally looks like getting this thing off the ground. It's unfortunate that the routes, and numbers of riders will be so limited and the dates have been pushed back so far.

Sounds like lots of folks want to do the guided rides b/c they haven't ridden much or any of the CC/VQ courses. They'll probably be some upset people tonight when RSVP closes.

But hey, just look at this way. This is a unique year due to the closures, and it'll be that much cooler when you cross the finish the line having to ride the course blind.

I highly doubt it. You'll probably ask to stick to the route, but as far as pacing with a guide I say no way. I'm sure they'll have enough marshalls and people on the course to ensure they don't do have to do that. That would be a nightmare with 300+ people riding that day.

    Gene, OMR?

You will not need to ride in groups, but riders will be expected to go by each check point as usual to be sure they didn't cut the course. So ride your own ride and good luck in the VQ/CC.

I'm a little confused on what exactly the route is going to be now. Is it BS - MW - MS - Peak and down MS and out?

The proposed route will be the Black Star to the peak and back.

Looks like Blackstar - Motorway - Maple Springs - Peak - Maple Spring
