I'm set up (maybe not ready but set up). Say hi if you see me out there! Good luck everyone and ride safe.
MnMDan Not as long as you're pulling me up blackstar! After that it should be light out anyways. In all seriousness this is the lightest light I have. Lighter then my small commuter NR light. Haha battery technology is great!
Right now in Trabuco Canyon we are getting a very steady mist making the ground wet. Should make things perfect for tomorrow morning. Have fun everybody.
I'm getting anxious. I spent about an hour trying to true my rotor enough to stop all audible rub. I had to stop before i made it worse. Time to start packing my Camelbak. I've had a flat on the trail 2x in the past 2yrs, yet, i will be bringing 2 tubes, pump, chuck, and 3- C02 canisters. And then, enough food for a picnic. I can't wait. Woohoo!
I just hope it produces a tacky track and very littlemud. A few years ago (the last time I rode the CC) it rained the day before theevent and the combo of mud and a SS bike made for a challenging day...
I was thinking of doing the opposite. I've been training with a 15 pound camelbak and thought I'd just bring a Sram link, multi-took, one tube (I run tubeless), 2 C02 cans and chuck, a light mini pump (maybe) and a little food. I was even thinking of not bringing a camelbak at all--I'm sure a lot of the XC racers won't be wearing one. I thought I might use 1 or 2 water bottles and just fill up at the aid stations and use their food. The only risk is that I'm going to be just inside the cutoff so all the food might be gone by the time I roll into the Motorway aid station... I don't typically drink a lot of water and it looks like good temps / conditions for tomorrow (except wind) so a lot of layers aren't going to be needed either. I was tempted at the packet pickup to buy an S-Works Epic. That way, I'd be on a 22 pound bike instead of my 32.5 pound bike. I ditch my 15+ pound camelbak for a few pounds of stuff and I figure it would be a lot easier. I wish I would've lost 10 pounds before tomorrow as well...
I'm thinking on going out there and setting up a small booth and handing out Picklebacks. I think it would be perfect recovery drink for those brave enough to attempt this challenge. For those that don't know what a Pickleback is, it's a shot of Jameson's followed by a shot of pickle juice.
I'll take the shot and pass on the pickle juice. Be at the bottom of Motorway. I think it'll be a long shot that I make the cutoffs, I'm just too slow climbing. Look for #562 at the back of the pack.
Unless you are really fast you will need a hydration pack because there are ONLY 2 official aid stations so unless you can get by with only 4 bottle of water for the entire 50 miles. You may not need as much water on the first leg but you probably will need more water to bag the peak. Saving weight by ditching water is.......not recommended.
Been on my mind. I COULD get by on 4 bottles and I hate wearing a pack, but I find on 5+ hour rides I don't drink with regularity and that catches up to me. The bottle is on my downtube and in my jersey... I'll reach for it later. And I screw myself because I don't drink the water I have. Its too easy to postpone reaching for a bottle when I'm struggling to keep traction on the stupid main divide climbs. With a pack the tube is right there and I sip sip sip sip sip sip sip as if I'm on a IV in the hospital. Works great So as much as I don't want to wear a camelbak I'm going to just because it allows good habits. I'll be wearing white tube socks as well.
Oh and I'll be blasting my ipod with both earbuds in also so don't get too close to me either I won't hear you.
