Did an end of season ride up at Mt. Pinos today and zigged when I should have zagged. Trail conditions were awesome as was the weather. For those of you that have been up there this year you may have noticed the fallen tree in the upper campground. It has been built up on the approach so it has basically been turned in to a 3-4 foot drop that you can still roll if need be. Well when I came up on it I thought I had scrubbed off enough speed to simply roll it. I guess I got behind my seat a little too far for the speed I was going because when I went over it the front dropped then bounced back up and the bike just flew out from under me and I landed hard on my back. Fortunately it pretty much heals on it's own. I'll be sore for a few weeks but the vicodin seems to be helping with that. :)

Sucks. I hope everything works out. I had a friend get a T1 compression fracture from landing on his head due to not scrubbing off enough speed too. He broke his back Wednesday, and then went on vacation that same weekend. He only had a 10% fracture though. Good luck on your recovery.

Ouch! If it's possible to get a "good" broken back, I guess it's the one you got. Best wishes for 100% recovery.

The thought was definitely going through my head but I'm not one to take the easy way out. Obviously if it was worse I'd take the extended vacation. :)

What peak? :-k Oh I get it. Peak delivery season. Overtime must be good.

I hate that tree. I'd rather speed down and get a little lift at the camp site.

    Heal up!

Sorry to hear about your crash.
I've had the same injury (did T10 too), and it can heal just fine. Good luck to you.

LOL my first smart @ss thoughts too! How many runs did you get in? Any pics? Video? Sounds like a unique way to fall.....
There's a reason old guys like us aren't supposed to ride as fast and hard as you do. Ask Doug, who you made run into a tree, and Shudder who is feeling the "injury blues"...... Healing takes longer and it sux....

    Get well quick!

Hey Ed, Guess your back must be pretty stiff today, hope you are feeling better than yesterday? Do me a favor and don't scare me like that again! Those were some pretty tence moments there for quite awhile. I was amazed when the group we were in wanted you to move off the trail so they could try there luck at jumping the log while you were in massive pain! Your buddy almost got hurt worse than you. I remember thinking at that time that wish I was an EMT so I could treat all the carnage.
Just wondering if you have checked on line and found any of those weekend knitting classes you were talking about.

I was up there on Sat, weather trail = thumbs-up

That log jump is a joke, IMHO it should removed, it’s dangerous, because of where it’s at you can carry a lot of speed up to it without realizing it and you need to be committed, it has two modes, launch or roll, there is no in between, well the in between is your on for the ride and hope for the best. I bet there has been a fair number of a digger on the back side of that log.

I to had a compression fracture of my T12 back in February. Though it was cause by folding myself in half on a snowboard. Bloody my nose between my knees. In my case I was up and moving around fairly quickly but the extents of my pain were in the soft tissue from being overstressed.

Best of luck, take it easy on the bending and you should be mobile in no time.
