Anybody an herbivore on here? I just started eating fish again -- hope to build more muscle and power for the rides. What should I eat? When? How much? :?: What kind of body fat is good to have (keep in mind; i am a girl). :?:
My sister studies nutrition and organics and I could ask her for you.... There are lots of vegetable proteins out there that are probably better for you than animal based ones... I will let you know when she gives me some information
no -- i know all this stuff. i used to be a personal trainer, and i had to study all this stuff. i'm looking for mountain-bike specific nutrition that does not involve meat. i hate chicken ... i don't like fish much, but i'll eat it. i can't eat meat. it grosses me out. but thanks for the sites! someone on here has gotta be vegie ... if you're a closet veggie, just pm me. hahahah. I know guys are embarassed about that sort of thing. i know more guy vegies than girl ones ...
Mountain Bike specific? Not sure on that. I have read that XC racer Willow Koerber had to give up straight vegie diet and added chicken. However, her body and the training mileage and activity required to be at the elite level maybe a bad example. Like you need another book, but my buddy is a big time vegetarian hockey player. Works out a lot and he recommended I read 'Protein Power' by Michael Eades. I can post my cliff notes version of what's in it in a little while. So is tofu and beans aren't cutting it? You might try the racing forum over at mtbr.com too. Pho'dup
I believe DirtRag did a feature article about this a few issues back. I'll look through my stack and get back to you.
Seem to recall there was a "recent" article in one of the bike mags (bike, dirt rag, etc.) on a mtb racer who was a veggie or vegan. cannot recall his name (nor mag) but think was a sidebar on his diet. (think he was from PA). maybe you could goggle or someones else recalls. Also check out http://www.organicathlete.org/
You're right...in the DIRTRAG issue #121 a few back is a feature titled "Vegan Bob" about the endurance racer Rob Lichtenwalner on his vegan diet and how to perform at that level. I'll save you the issue if you don't have it?? I'll send you the pertinent points of the article. I illiminated beef from my own diet many years ago.
