What a bad ass ship. Out of the ashes of 911 comes a ship forged from steel from the trade center. Hey Im a former Jarhead but this baby looks hi tech and very bad. Sept 11th, Lets Not Forget.

    I detect an edit

I'm watching a pretty depressing documentry on Laos and unexploded US ordinance (left behind from the Vietnam war), and it's ongoing effect on the people there. (This is not trying to be argumentative or a dig and IS off topc (sorry)) I agree with the lets not forget but there are many things best not forgotten.

It's a war machine and it kills things.
I'm all for protecting our shores but I'll bet there are some family's that wish the Twin Towers and what they represent were not forged into a war ship.
How about taking the steel from the Towers and using it to build a structure to somehow support the families of victims. Orphans, widows and widowers. :?:I don't know.
I know some victims families support it. I know some don't.
I look at anything from the Towers as sacred.
Not trying to offend anyone. This is just my opinion!
    Feel free to debate.

Beautiful ship! San Antonio class amphibious ship. I was almost lucky enough to precom her sister ship, the USS New Orleans. I think its great that they used the old steel, to comission such an amazing machine.:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:USN:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

An amphib doesn't kill things. Its the big green monsters aboard that handle that job.

If only they would build more of these and decom the Peleliu and Nassau we could stop riding around on rust buckets.

The 911 aspect of this ship just makes it more of a prized target! Like the Titanic, it too is sinkable. This could be a public relations disaster if it is mined, torpedoed and sunk.

its stuff like this that makes me wonder if our country had a mandatory service time, would we have more pride in our country... too many people sit on the couch watch bad things happen and dont even vote or spend time in service.

Serving was the most awe inspiring things i have ever done with my live and would gladly return if needed. I enjoy my freedoms that i have been granted and respect all those before me and like me who have actually given blood sweat and tears to protect it.

i understand you might think its "sacred" but is our counrty not sacred enough? or is it not a show of strength from falling, building a "war machine" as you call it out of the wreckage of fallen ground?

sorry if this came across as dickish but im extremely passionate about this subject... as well as my freedom of speech as im sure people have figured out on here haha:)

i welcome others opinions or debates:beer:

I think it's truly fitting that steel from the towers was used in this ship. It's the ultimate "you mess with the bull, you get the horns" statement.

    Well said!

Freedom is not free! Peace is not free! Please study some history, anytime there is any length of peace it's all because the war that created the peace is so devastating.....think WWII

Most of us here are fortunate enough not to experience war and devastation up close and personal. WHY? Because we have biggest guns and best military in the world.

Yes we all need to morn for those who are lost at 9/11 but if we don't do anything then there WILL be more of it. Do people really think the terrorist would stop shooting/bomb us because was ask nicely? :?:

Mandatory service time is the antithesis of freedom of choice.

Just because patrons are not proponents of war does not mean they lack pride in our country. I take full pride in my country, but would prefer that we seek out peaceful options that spare our troups lives, prior to engaging in war.

This does not mean that I do not acknowledge a need for forceful actions, rather, I prefer that we cherish the lives of those in the service and embrace them for defending our rights by defending their lives as I can (by voting, protesting, engaging in my rights) until we have no other option than to send in our troops.

As a side note, your arguements may be well said, however, I think it's also a sign of how military involvement has preceded over education in some "patriotic" communities. Not only in grammar usage, but also in the illogical arguement that anti-war means anti-patriot. Our nation is not based on war, terrorism, or violent acts, like Iran, why is it that we, who oppose these actions, are branded as less prideful? Just one of my pet peeves.

Not down or pessimistic, just stating the obvious. If I was Alqueda, I would be saying great, this would make a sweet follow up to our 9/11 gig!
