Here's my race run. Lots of mistakes up top and some spots feel like I'm just inching through them.... shoulda known better than to race without doing a single practice run #-o(Packed, eventful weekend and racing was a last minute decision). Good enough for 2nd in my class.

The video doesn't look it, but this was an exciting race for me, there's something about riding down a course not knowing what comes next. It's a lot of fun and sure gets the blood going but definitely not a good racing strategy!

I've always wanted to ask this stupid question. are the downhill shoes some kinda flat soled spd shoes? I've seen vans with spd's. Downhill racing looks fun but i haven't grown that pair yet. I'm getting better at doing more technical sections like the super d course 2. thanx

Downhill shoes depend on your pedals. Many DH racers use a clip-in platform pedal like a CB Mallet or Shimano DX. Many of the major mtb shoe companies make a flat-soled shoe that has a place to mount the cleat (661, Shimano, 510, etc). Many other racers use a flat pedal with little spikes and by far the most popular shoe for flats is the 510. Just about any skate shoe will do, but the 510s are grippier and are reinforced for mtb.

The difference between so-called dh shoes and xc shoes is sole stiffness. DH soles are pretty flexible, whether clipped in or flats.

    Does that help?

Yes sir! i learn something new everyday. i been told by fellow rookies that im crazy for staying clipped in on technical decents but i actually got used to and feel more comfortable doing it. thanks dude! damn it...im gonna start " browsing" on ebay haha

Man.......I had so much fun at this race.....got my new colors, got the new(er) bike a little more dialed in thanks to Double D at KHS good solid run for me, no dabs, no bobbles, felt fast and flowy, not used to that yet! Getting to really trust the bike and SO HAPPY to finally be on a proper DH bike as well.....good times with good friends and good people! Let's see if I can figure out this video posting thing.....

Yes that is true  but that spot that you picked by that roller and the stormy background made for some good shots! Also catching matt in the background was pretty cool too.

Here is two of my favorite photos of the weekend of my son take by Scott at "called To Creation" Scott is out every weekend getting some great shots.. This Photo was taken right before my son crashed real hard face first into a rock! Thank GOD nothing happened he just cracked up about it and destroyed his helmet.. So it pays to make sure you were good safety gear!

Nice photos - love the one of you monster-Ed! Don't know who that is giving it a huck on the Rocky Mountain, but good pic nonetheless. I am soooo bummed I missed this one!
