Those dudes are bad ass! Nice vid. I know how those dude's ankles and wrists are gonna feel in twenty years... but when they look back, they wouldn't change a thing!
So are helmets. But who am I to talk... never used a helmet on a bike until I was about 22. But then, I wasn't hucking and bunny hopping onto rails and staircases. Sick vid, nonetheless.
Wow, pretty amazing riding! But, I do have to wonder why it is so uncool to wear any protective gear, especially a helmet? After that intro, you just have to wonder when he's going to have an injury bad enough to put an end to all his riding and maybe more. Not that protective gear is a 100% guarantee, but neither are contraceptives, and I like to keep the odds in my favor.
Speak for your own safety and just let the Pro's work. Bulky pads can get in the way, besides by the time the camera is rolling their tricks have been practiced hundreds of times. A big part of the training these days is in Foam pits with full pads on, back when I was a newbie none of the (little) concrete parks around here allowed bikes so we had to hop the fence and shred in the dark. As action sports have grown so has the acceptance into the mainstream for athletes to have places to train and incentives for performing (though the X-games has become an exhibition and not a competition anymore). Looking back on some of the Sluts I chased and exploits behind the wheel as a youngster My antics on a BMX seem pretty safe:lol:.
i agree, the bulkyness of the pads gets in the way and you are less flexible because of it. i am not saying that i am anti wearing protective gear... but when i ride street or jumps i am usually just wearing knee pads under jeans. i understand the safety issue though. if i am DH'ing i feel that pads are more of a necessity. also, alot of the guys you see in the videos alot of times are actually wearing knee padding under their jeans... yes, even the guys wearing skinny jeans #-o
I can follow the argument that pads get bulky... still doesn't answer not wearing a helmet. There is hardly any bulk or weight to a good helmet, and not nearly enough to hinder one's riding. Also, it doesn't matter how many times one practices a trick stuff can still go wrong. Perfect example is this video filled with wrecks. However, it is not me riding like this so they can choose to do whatever they want. I'm still very impressed by the riding. I know most of this was of much less concern when I was younger, but as I have gotten older the longevity of my health has become more important to me (and the wife). To each their own:drunk:.
Helmets? Pads? How about their insurance coverage and deductibles? COME ON. When was the last time you watched Fight Club? This is fight club. Broken body parts is part of the reward. Dues. It is what it is. If its too loud, you're too old. That said, I wear every effing pad known to man when I ride. Even put on a Leatt brace the other day...
Helmet and pads are so two thousand and late! Like how he almost got ran over by a car after the jump! Way to throw his life away.....guess it's not worth a whole lot more than couple of jumps on a BMX bike.:?:
