Twitter -Ride Invites of Local Groups

Hey. I'm new on the forum, looking to get back on the mountain more after life's taken over past couple years, lurking couple days. Legs are decent as I road ride too. In Central Coastal OC, cool seeing a site like this as when I was more hardcore forums like this didn't exist (remember ProFlex? and when did they stop making Sugars?), past clubs I found/road with were 40+ year old guys taking off on 7am Saturday rides and I'm in that weird early-30s married with no kids point, looking for ride buddies and to hit the trails again. Got an idea, and I'm not one of those Facebook addicts.

Twitter - Kinda useless for me most part, I keep few and close friends, talk to people rather than text, so it's all the rage but mostly teenage girls using it if you ask me. I saw some groupings of local riders near each other to arrange regular rides and thought about this.

I usually ride on a regular basis, but kinda on a whim sometimes and short notice, not big on plannig my rides out week+ in advance. Wouldn't it be cool to setup local groups of riders near each other that could respond in say 2-3 hours lead time for rides? Send out a message, showup, ride? I don't track all the forums/websites I have interest in and not sitting by my e-mail, and I assume a lot of riders aren't office workers, so wouldn't setting up groups like this of say 50 people near Irvine and sending out a message when you feel like riding be cool? See the text and show or no show? Not arranged ride, but bonus if some show up? I'm not huge on large group rides either as someone is always breaking down, but they can be fun. This would be more informal.

Anyhow, an idea, I'm new on here.

 

I think it would be a great idea if STR had its own Twitter account for folks to follow. This way impromptu get togethers and rides can be tweeted for followers that may be interested in joining in on the fly.

 

Emailing or texting your friends or checking STR is enough. Who wants to keep looking at twitter? Office workers?

How do you keep the 40+ people out?
