Ride Report Turnbull Group ride 4/11/09

Roger and I did the 1st 8 miles then cut out early. Feels good to be back on the bike!!!

 

That's a whole lot of folks to put together in one ride. It was nice to ride something new. Thanks to all and especially the other eight guys in our breakaway group. Here's my download from the 705:

Well, that was FUN!! Met a few of you good people, rode with all of you!!! Can't wait to do it again!!! Meybe next time we can have name tags with our screen names so that folks like me who are relatively new to STR can put faces to the names??? Or not. :-k LOL.

I left as everybody was going off to ride Cow Trail, as I parked on the Hacienda side and rode over to meet the group. (I was kinda pooped out by then....)

Single speed was a bad idea. Having not rode except one shuttle day in the last 3 weeks due to injury/work plus single speed really bad idea. I left with Nancy Roger and Brad due to fact I had nothing left in my legs. I couldn't even hardly turn the cranks on some of the up hills. Knowing a lot more climbing was ahead it was the best time to head back. My entire body is sore right now.

Turnbull canyon...I like that place!!!

Turnbull is a pleasant surprise located in the heart of Whittier it is mostly up then mostly down... not a lot of level riding. This was my first time at Turnbull and I really enjoyed the trails as they were in great shape. I couldn't find a hint of mud anywhere. I counted about 55 riders starting out and took the appropriate pictures of the ride up the canyon. The single speed was a good choice although I got a little tired climbing up from Cow Trail... but that was quickly forgotten on the way down A Line. I even got to see the famous or infamous jump over the fence location at the end coming out onto the street. I guess they have washed away all the blood from the last videoed attempt. 8-[

There was a Denmother (Nancy) sighting. Gosh it was good to see her and Roger! There was even a Hugh sighting (on a geared bike no less! #-o)

Had a great time riding Turnbull today. A group of at least 50 riders!! It was great meeting all the new faces.
Thanks for posting the ride David! It was my first time riding Turnbull and I will be back.

Ok I forgot the funniest part was the long line to start going down the first DH part.

 

The retard group (jasonmason, ladd jasper and myself) on single speeds had a fun time trying to catch you guys. Thats a good ride on a single!

You guys were just dropping into Cow Trail when we coming up from finishing it. That climb out on a single speed certainly gets attention from the legs!

 

I would like to personally take a lot of credit for allowing you guys to catch up.:lol::lol:

great riding with everyone today. i took off after the 7th loop as i started riding at 7am and had to get home to the kiddos. prior to meeting the str group, i met oneredbike and his buddies at 360 and did a cow trail loop with them. gotta love that little loop!

it was awesome seeing some familiar faces and meeting a few new people. park didn't seem nearly as busy as it has been for the past few saturdays, so that was a huge plus.

very fun ride! unfortunately, both my legs are extremely cramped up! you guys worked me fo sho! this was my first time here at turnbull and i had a blast! but man, my legs are shot, thanks!
