I have not seen anything on any of my machines. I use AVG - keeping my fingers crossed. I sent a message to George to let him know.

Webroot caught it at home and I didn't see a thing at work so our AV must of caught it there.

Why do people do this shit?

Everyone, at least download Microsoft Security Essentials. It is totally free. It caught it for me twice now on two laptops. One with Vista, one with XP. My desktop for some reason did not catch it. Firefox seemed to block a plugin from installing though. Might have saved me. I did a whole system scan last night on the desktop but nothing came up.

Yes my infection came from STR. STR asked Safari for a plugin to run something on STR's site. The download was a fake Apple plugin file then it disabled system restore, msconfig, and access to all drives. All my browsers took me to a antivirus site that claimed to be able to fix the problem for $.

My install of windows was nearly 3 years old so I just reformatted and reinstalled windows and upgraded to Windows 7. By the way Win 7 runs pretty nice.

Not saying it's not STR (the server has been hacked in the past). But I need to know what/where it is before I can deal with it. :-k

Anandtech forums used to have a good security guide with tons of FOSS. It has been awhile since I ran Windows, but I remember it being a great guide. Besides the free AV like Avast and AVG, there is the malware stuff like Spybot. It is a long list of stuff I am glad I don't have to worry about anymore, but could be a good guide to check to best secure your Windows box if you are not too tech savvy.

    6/20/2010 9:14:07 AM Web Anti-Virus Detected: Exploit.Java.Agent.f Java(TM) Platform SE binary __http://fipuke.in/x/nc.jar/quote/Mailvue.class

There is not a lot on this other than it attacks not up to date versions of Java VM.

Last time you had an issue it was related to the ad network, are you only using Google ads only? It seems to be gone now, so if you did not do anything then someone else did...i.e. the ad network. Could be The big G they are not infallible. Could be the servers at your ISP etc...

I see some ad stuff buried from shareasale.com maybe you should check with them.

hate to say it, but the pub.ads are the problem. they are not OUR ads, from OUR supporting advertisers. Eff them George!!.

BTW, I don't "see" any of the adds anyway so it doesn't matter to me, but I'd rather know that our LBS's are giving us legit content, than subjecting us to this BS....

Hmm, hopefully that was the issue. I installed ClamAV onto the server and am trying to run a scan with it. If those ads weren't the issue and ClamAV doesn't find anything I may need to upgrade the forum software. Could get messy if that's the case.
