Me and my friend went out to Holy Jim today, and about a half mile from the trailhead a big tree has fallen covering about 20-30ft of the trail. We managed to crawl through and around it, but it took us a while to get the bikes through as well. Just a little heads up for anyone who is looking to head out there.

What would you guess is the inches of wood needed to be cut on the fallen specimen. Twelve inches, less, far greater? Multiple branches etc.

There are a lot of little branches that seem easy to remove with a small saw, but there are some parts that are pretty big that are probably around 12 inches, and I think you may need a chainsaw. I wish I had pictures but I didnt think to take any, but this was a pretty big tree, my guess is that when this tree was still standing it was probably 30 feet tall.

Decided to check this out today and my initial response was gosh......sure would be nice to have a chainsaw.

The water crossings were kinda sketchy getting to the tree but good God Almighty, is it ever beautiful out there ,sure dont miss summer:).

Spent a good three hours sawing and chopping to remove ALOT of the Live Oak. One can easily get a bike through, however, you'll still have to lift it over a main support branch. No way was I gonna get into that because the main tree trunk woulda collapsed and it would require a chainsaw to get that much timber off the trail.

Well, i achieved my minimal goal with maximum effort which was to make a path that wouldn't tear brake lines, break spokes etc.

I'll leave the rest for the experts, this little beaver is tired from chewing on so much wood.

Thanks Steve! I was the rider coming up when you were hiking down. Definitely need a chain saw, the tree was pretty big.
