I have a 7 and 11 year old - lately with rain and sports we have not been riding together much though. But ill see about this weekend

BTW - to help the kids up big hills and get a workout i found a gret solution. Get a rope around 5-6 feet and an intertube - tie together. Then tie the rope end to your seatpost and put the intertube around your kids bars. Then pull him up the hills. This only works on longer hills so stuff like El Moro starting in the parking lot - I pull him up to Mach One and then we both ride down. Dont stay connected on the down hills. I have also used this at oaks and pulled my 11 year old up Chutes B then we rode right back down Chutes A. Also pulled up Goat. Ofcourse the kids can pedal to help out and they get a workout also. This way you can get your kids out to some bigger stuff

This is awesome!! I have a seven year old who has finally made it from the church all the way to the bottom of Cholla and back on his BMX. Santa brought him a Cannondale hardtail and he is game for bigger treks. I have a big training day on Sat so not sure about a 7 am start on Sunday but I will monitor this thread and join in when we can

I make my kids get up the hills on their own, they can ride or push but they have to earn it. So far I've had no problems and my daughter actually likes to climb (don't know where she got that from), it has made them much stronger riders. My youngest won't climb, he refuses, so he does not get to come with us and Jake and Ryan are sure to let him know the fun he missed, he'll get there when he's ready.

Surftime: very creative! If it gets them riding and smiling, its worth every penny not to mention that's gotta be making you a stronger climber! I too make my son climb it no matter how many times we stop. His favorite question while riding, "am I getting stronger dad?"

I hope this thread works out for organizing group kid rides as I think it will be a blast!

Anyone wanna do a kids' ride tomorrow? I'm thinking short, fun, minimal climbing...something like the flat area between Irvine Park and Oaks (might be part of Oaks, not sure), doing part of the Fully Loop (the fun, easy-to-get-to parts), etc. My kids are average kids with average riding skills, but they like to have fun!

I took my 8 yr. old daughter today at Fullerton Loop (
Laguna Lake). We are working on confidence building. It's her second time at Laguna Lake. Mostly flat and a few spots she can walk her bike up and ride it downhill. We try to come as much as we can. She's got the shifting part down, but she still spooks herself on the downhills.

I am taking my 7 year old son out tomorrow out in the Bakersfield foothills out by Hart Park. Doing the same thing as Low Pressure, confidence and skills building. My daughter is regretting getting a Ipod for Christmas and now asking for a bike for her birthday next month.

If anyone wants to get together with the kids for this trail loop, LET ME KNOW. My Son calls this "His Loop" now ;)
