OK, so it may be a while since I have posted here, so I may have missed something... but out riding up Tijeras on Friday and after passing the couple of DJ rascals complaining about the dirt not sticking to build a jump, I found a nice clean spot where the jumps used to be... from memory they were not on the main trail, so I have to wonder why they were removed. Not that they were really jumps, more like 12" poppers anyway. I also have to assume it was ranger inspored improvements due to the quad tracks heading up to them.

Yeah, noticed that myself. Now there is a nice 3-4ft drop where a jump used to be.:)

Sorry but S.T.U.P.I.D.A.S.S. (Saving Trail Users (from) Potentially (and) Inherently Dangerous, Aggressive (and) Silly Stunts) tore them out because of the potential for injury. Even though these jumps were small and appeared harmless, the fact that a rider was able to hit them at great speeds was too just too risky to ignore. Additionally, the "jump line" caused a rider to cross the trail in order to tie the three main jumps together. This could easily cause a head-on collision with an unsuspecting rider traveling in the opposite direction.

The bottom line is that these jumps were recklessly assembled by amateurs that are not concerned for their safety or yours. If the person(s) responsible for the building of these jumps should happen to read this post, please use a little forethought in the future. There are a lot of resources on the Internet where one can find instruction on the art of building safe jumps. Send me a pm if you would like a few links.

Be safe out there and don't forget to wear your helmets.

This issue was recently brought to our attention by one of your STR moderators. Apparently they are concerned for your safety on the trail as well as on this website.

You know this for fact or are you making an assumption? Just curious. Did a ranger actually tell you that they removed these jumps for these reasons?

I suspect that due to the imminent danger there was no time for bureaucratic red tape and decisive action was taken. ;)

Those jumps were fun! Not even dangerous. WTF? When the guys from rock-n-road who built them find out they will be pissed

Correct sir. We tore them out ourselves. Why should we ask permission to remove something that was built without permission? Especially given the fact that our work did not present a danger. Of course we will need to look into the "3-4 foot drop" that PAIN mentioned in an earlier post.

I know who you are Maverick and your reputation for recklessness is absolutely appalling. You are a danger to yourself and those around you. You go back to your friends at rock-n-road and tell them that STUPIDASS will not tolerate illegal, dangerous stunts.

The drop really isnt bad, but a rider coming in the opposite direction would be hidden from veiw. Whether it stays or goes, doesnt bother me one way or the other.

I have a suggestion how about not hitting the jumps, and like go around them!![-X Secondly, they where on a straight away so you could see people coming in the other direction. I rode that trail many times and never had a problem and again if I didn't feel like hitting those kickers I went around them. However, I didn't take it upon myself to remove them. There are trails that have obsticles that are questionable I just avoid them or pick another line, but I don't take it upon myself to modify them just because I think there dangerous. FYI Mtn biking is and can be a hazardous sport. Rant Over!!! P.S. I didn't build them or know who did.

I found the president of S.A. phone number. Lets all give him a call
    to complain about the injustice.

This is why there must be STUPIDASSes!

Of course I am not going to hit the jumps, they are dangerous. I am worried about you making an unsafe decision to hit those jumps and risk possible injury. That is why the jumps had to be removed. If no one hit the jumps ever, this would be a non-issue. Furthermore, even though it is a straight away, you still risk a collision. What if both riders were talking on cell phones and were somewhat distracted. It is just better to play it safe.

Please, that is a private number. If you would like to contact the president, you may do so via email: [email protected]
