Well, at least for a few days a week...

Hey everybody. My name is David. I've just decided my hiatus from the dirt trails has gone on for far too long (my last MTB was a Trek Y22...). So my birthday present to myself this year was a new 29er full suspension.

I'm always looking for fun people to ride with, on the dirt or on the road. I'm down in Costa Mesa but would happily make the trek to meet up.

Look forward to riding with y'all.

Welcome! I ride both as well but usually need a lot more motivation to get out on the bike with slicks.

Welcome from Mission Viejo. Nice ride! And it's OK to ride on skinny slick tires, I do and I'm OK...kinda...sorta LOL. If you want to go on a road ride PM me and we'll ride some nice roads in South OC., and just check Upcoming Events for the fun dirt.

Welcome! I've got the same bike and have been riding it a few days per week since purchasing in January. Awesome ride! I'm usually found at the STT/Luge, Whiting, Aliso or Oneill. FYI: I was having a few issues with the front derailleur and my local shop (rock n road-mv) informed me that it was on "recall" so they switched it out. Hopefully you will not have the same issue but wanted to give you a heads up.

    See you on the dirt!

If you are coming from the road, you might want to swap out those platform pedals for some clipless. Don't get sucked into the platforms just because its a mountain bike. Unless you are really riding some heavy duty DH, you probably won't benefit from them on XC style riding. I know a lot of guys that use clipless even with advanced DH. What type of rides will you be doing?

Thanks. My plan is to keep those on for a few more weeks until I'm comfortable again, but then I am definitely going back to clipless. What are the good types out there now? I have an old pair of Shimanos (I think that's what they are) and a pair of Crank Brothers somewhere as well.

moderate pace (fun first!), starting around 4, but we could meet you in the park (like the top of zips) if you can't start till later. we'll probably ride until dark, but there are lots of bailout points to make it shorter. pm me for details or questions.

dacaboose--hope you can make it (i just realized your screen name isn't a compound word: daca + boose. duh).

as for pedals, i just switched from cranks to shimano xt's--much more solid feel, way more durable, and adjustable. OTOH, crank bros. have great customer service (and they need it!).
