If i remeber right didnt the totem coil come in a u-turn model as well at one point? If so what year was it? any info? If not how do you guys like the totem 2-step air? I am coming of a Talas 36 and I really dont like it, I normally prefer coil & oil but nobody is offering a 180mm coil fork with travel adjust for 2010. I like marzocchi stuff a ton but have just heard to many bad things about their air Forks. Not to mention every product except one I have had to warranty right out of the box. Other than that I love Zoch stuff. Help!
no u-turn on the totem ever. only 2-step, solo air, and coil. I recall a lot of people had trouble with the 2-step system, but that may have been remedied there's been a lot of interest in a u-turn totem, but I don't think rock shox really cares about it at the moment. they're in the middle of redesigning their whole lineup, so it's a backburner item at best. something you CAN look into though, is a boxxer ride. it's a dual crown fork, but it is 180mm with u-turn, and the motion control damper from your standard boxxer team/WC (the 32mm version). rockinthecasbah had one for sale, but I think he mightve sold it.
well, FWIW, I recall some talk about hacking a u-turn kit from a boxxer ride into a domain fork on mtbr awhile back. I forget how far they got with it though. that would get you a burly 180mm fork with u-turn. drop a lyrik mission control compression damper in and you've essentially got a mini totem.
Yeah if I cant find what I like I will probably end up converting my talas to a Van36 or buy a lyrik coil. I dont know anyone who has run the new totem 2-step. Some input on that would be cool. thanks Bry.
No personal experience, but I did a lot of research on forks and a lot of people bitched about the 2-steps. The solution was to convert to the coil.... The biggest thing was that the forks felt fine, but the 2-step would start to not work and then the fork would pack down.
The Totem Coil is one of the best forks I have ever had. It may be worth giving up the travel adjust. Get a dog collar to hold it down.
damnit Jared just go rigid! I'll give you 50 bucks if you race Fontana with a 7'' rear travel bike using a rigid fork! :bang:
Totem 2-step on my Nomad I have a Totem 2-step on my Nomad. I love the adjustment, perfect for socal where you earn your fun with long climbs. I love the 40mm stanchions, they definitely inspire confidence. RS is offering the 2-step for 2010, I am thinking about upgrading (?), so I may be selling my 2-step in the near future if you're interested.
It's already been done!!!!! I'm pretty sure someone raced the expert course for Fontana #4 on a Intense Tazer proto this past spring...(80mm fork and single speed)
my inspiration! and thats the only bike I will have this season and actually thats a 100mm talas 36 were goin 75mm or rigid!!!!! R.o.C.O! Oh yeah and if so I am going steel!, keepin it real
