total thanks vs thanks earned? what's the difference?

is "earned" related to thanks earned in the course of a post that you originally started?

or is it related to the number of "thanks" that you've given out? :?::-k

    YOu have it correct.

Earned are thanks given to you.

Thanks are the number that you have given to others.

](*,) MtnBikej you are confusing the kid! #-o

Here is what SlowSSer should do....
    1) Review his Total Thanks/Thanks Earned Totals
    2) Locate one of "MY" threads
    3) Click the "THANKS" button (on one of "MY" threads)
    4) Return to his "Total Thanks/Thanks Earned" Page
    5) One of the numbers should have changed

Glad to be of service!

Instead of the raw number of thanks, I believe an "earned value ratio" should be posted under your name. :D

How about the number of thanks per post you make? That would result in a low ratio for the people that post a lot but don't get thanked, and a higher ratio for those whose posts are less frequent but more "valuable"? ;)

I think my own ration would be very low, perhaps below 1. I imagine that Dino's would be >> 1.

    Give, and ye shall recieve?

Bumping this old thread, sure before we could compare stats and some folks were competing for #1 in a given month but just because that's gone is no reason not to spread the love.[-X

For example I just took back my thanks from a poster who has earned 588 and only given 1:(. If a mouse click is truly too much to give I think some of the scrooges around here ought to be "un-thanked".

Crazy?, maybe:?:, but lacking the time to comment on everything I like to acknowledge other's contributions and imagine some folks getting fuzzy and warm from being heard and understood. To rip off a good movie "the definition of a Lady or Gentleman is a person more concerned with the comfort of those around them" and "Manners are how we show other people we respect them".

Granted not everything posted has redeeming qualities8-[, but if hundreds have taken the time to read your posts and "Thank" you for it is ANYBODY really too busy to reciprocate more than a handful or times?

To make this interesting I'd love to have George or one of the mods run the numbers on who has the greatest disparities and post them #1-10 so we can properly "witch hunt" them for being so selfish.:protest:

If you are still reading this, it's time to go ride, (seriously):-s.

There you go, Disco. That´s 1 more you got for that post:)

You have a pretty big disparity, but you give more than you recieve. Probably because of the 50 cent sticker and flip flop remarks (still cracking me up)

    Now, off for a ride.

Since we are talking about giving "thanks"-

This may have been brought up before but it would be cool to be able to give thanks on a lot of the pictures posted by members. Not the ones attached to RRs and other posts but pics uploaded in the photos section.

    Any Mod have some feedback?

How about adding an 'I agree' or 'disagree' button - save the 'thanks' for the 'poster' to thank the input from others?

I generally 'thank' those that I agree with and DISCO of course.... here, here...

Edit- as for go ride already, I'm off to Aliso at 3:30 today for a heat induced suffer-fest

    Trolling...

There's a reason for that... I am a savant. 90% of the time I post garbage, but the remaining 5% of the time I'm brilliant.

Edit: Doug - where is my thanks? You tease.

Agreeing with a post may be one way to thank the OP, but here are a few other examples:

Workshop: Answered question about "how to" should receive a thanks by anyone who could use that info.

Trail Talk: Putting together a good RR with pics or without takes time and effort and should be thanked. Especially if you've never been to or seen any of the trails ridden in the RR.

Trailhead: Scheduling a big ride that provides all info like links to trailhead, distance covered, elevation gain, difficulty. When it's done right, they will show.

Bottom line is, you don't have to thank anyone if you do not want to, but it's up to you. Thanking everything is also up to you. No special prizes for the number of thanks you give or earned.

I'm OTB, with the thank you's. Never really looked at it before.

I'd be afraid if there was a "no thanks" button.
