well i did it ... tore the same one in the army and it healed back great (minor tear) and was just informed ill be off the bike for a year... the doc says it was actually the motion of pedaling that weakened it before the tear ill be getting the heel xrayed ever 6 weeks so they can monitor the progress... shit this sucks... thank you stairsteps...#-o

hiking is ok with a special brace and walking should be normal just not riding... i told them just to chop it off the healing would be quicker...well not really

    sheesh

well on another note due to this ill be selling my brand new 2010 enduro comp (black)

ill post it up on here tomorrow and let everyone here take a jab at it before doing the pink bike ebay thing...

the bike is a few months old with around 150 miles on it..

id rather it went to someone who can ride it than sit and torment me from the garage for the next 6 months to a year...:-k

Dude, that's a large bag of industrial strength suckitude. I hope you heal quickly, man. Also, I agree with Alison. Don't be too hasty about selling your bike. The chances of you regretting it are pretty high.

That's a tough injury. My cousin who was a very good tennis player tore his. They said he was the next MacEnroe with out the attitude. Never recovered from that.
I hope you have better luck.

Sorry to hear that. Are you going to have the surgery done? I know exactly what you are going through. Last year, I ruptured/tore my left Achilles last year (playing soccer) and had surgery about a week later. Did PT for 3 months and was back out there riding on the 4th month. Hang on to your bike! It'll only motivate you. Get well soon!

Grasshopper... so sorry to heal about the torn tendon...

Please do not make a hasty decision regarding selling your bike. It can wait awhile before you make the sell or keep decision. Right now the emotions are running high & you're pissed off... don't make this worse... or we will send Paco and Guido over to visit you... and you don't want to see them!

Hang in there... this too will pass.

I think you have a positive attitude. You were informed you'll have to stay off for a year, but then you say 6 months to a year after the bike torments you. You just cut the recovery in half. You'll be riding in no time. And whenever you get back on the saddle, your bike will still be nicer than mine. Good luck.

Bullsh*t.....Bullsh*t......Bullsh*t....don't sell the bike! I was running and riding 6 mos after a complete rupture of my achilles. It tore in half mid-tendon and had to be surgically repaired.

Be sure your ortho is sports oriented and find an aggressive PT that is familiar with the injury and riding to boot. Also, pay attention to nutrition and, it sounds goofy but, it's important to try to maintain a positive attitude. Keep the bike...don't let it mock you...let it motivate you.

Christ I sound like Tony Robbins!

Have to agree with some of the comments about keeping the bike.

The discouragement is a given with initial injury, especially since you've been down this road before. Perhaps this can aid you a second time around:?:.
I too endured the long process of recovering from a ruptured achilles tendon as other members here have overcome as well. Yep it sucked but hey, I've got kevlar threads keeping it together and I wasn't even in the army;).

Persevere,Overcome,Heal and RIDE, a bitchin Enduro!

When I shattered my heel I was originally told 6 months before I could ride again.
I was on the stationary bike in 8 weeks, riding on the pavement in 10 weeks, and on the dirt in 13. And let's not forget, I'm 44!
Don't sell it. Your physical conditioning from riding will help speed your recovery. Everyone is different and those of us who are in better shape have a distinct advantage.
    Be tough!

I also have the infamous 10 inch scar in the back of my leg! I ruptured mine in 93, I was on the bike 4 months later (it was winter in Canada!).

Keep the bike, it will be something to look forward to during the recovery.

I say keep the bike and get rid of your Ortho. It seems like the feedback is that you should be able to get back on the bike in no more than 6 months. Your bike will still be new. You'll never get out of it what you can get from it in recovery.

Hang in there and make the best of it. Maybe work the upper body. Maybe do some swimming at the gym.

    Good luck.

First off, sorry to hear about the injury - my sympathies to you.

Second: +357 about not selling the bike. Talk to your doc and get him to prescribe riding as therapy, then you can write off a bunch of your bike costs!

+1000 for not selling. If anything build up another bike, maybe a road or XC, something you can take it easy on? Building up bikes and keeping ontop of the bike-game was the only thing that pulled me through being sick for a few months back in '07. Being in bed for months can really take its toll and it really helps having an awesome hobby and passion. Keep the bike. And Waldo, what a good idea! Get better quick, very sorry to hear about the injury. I hyper-extended-ish mine a year ago and it hurt like a b!tch. Hang in there and keep up with the bike stuff!
