Okay...so I don't sound like such a "pansy." Here is the post that got me in trouble and forced me to open my own STR account.

I failed to mention that Sue has travelled the country as a bass player...

    http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/pub/33434-im-starting-band.html

I started pirating her account and after one failed (great) April Fools post...she created my profile: Sailor Ripley (as inspired by David Lynch).

    First impressions can be deceiving...

When I first rode with Suggie, I said to myself, "wow, this chick is good."
Ventana X5... XTR parts... King hubs... Carbon everything...
    I thought I was in for a (bicycle-related) a$s-whooping! #-o

While she was fully capable of riding a bicycle, she DID crash going uphill... She DID crash going downhill... On a third occasion, she even failed to clip-out of her pedals.

The one memory I will never forget from that day: Her TOUGHNESS!
Midway through that first ride, she crashed while attempting to descend a rough section.
To my disbelief, she picked herself up... Dusted herself off... Walked back up the hill.. And tried it again! All in 30 seconds!

To say her skills have improved since then would be the UNDERSTATEMENT of the century!

    Tapia
She "looked" like a mountain biker

    Mt. Pinos/McGill
The place where she learned to pin-it!
The trail where she first learned to jump!

    Big Bear/Gray's Peak
Like I said, she LOVES her little jumps! No matter how small- she finds them!
Sometimes she gets "BIG AIR" (i.e. 2-3 feet)...
Her specialty: Jumping between 6-18" ;)

If Suggie LOVES small jumps, she REALLY LOVES riding chunky terrain! 8-[
I don't get it... I don't understand it... All I know is she excels when the terrain gets rocky! :?:

    Big Bear/Cougar Crest
    [IMG]

A few weeks back, our crew drove to Mammoth...
Suggie "pretty much" rode every Black and Double-Black Trail we took her on!
When she did crash (i.e. loose pumice), she dusted herself off and tried again!
(If I crash, I "ain't" trying it again)

Only one thing I'd change... Damn roadie! #-o
    [IMG]

To all the Ladies reading this post... (WE) are proud of you!
To all the guys: Start typing!!!!

+1 on Suggie really pushing herself and making great strides in her riding.
I've had the privilege of riding with her a number of times over the past year or so, primarily in the San Gabes, and her progression has really been remarkable. Dino's already said it all, so no need for me to reiterate...just thought I'd chime in and say keep pushing!

I am not a guy.;) I'll write about this cool Dirty Girl anyway. This lady rides and she's totally hard core. Not too long ago she climbed the 1st (5) miles of Holy Jim on this bike. It's her cross country bike she rode up with her thin tires. As much as people warned her about Holy Jim she did not let it hold her back. Thou, she got several flats she was not discouraged. Always looking for a good ride and never worried about not keeping up. Recently she purchased new tires to ride the loop better. We rode the Loop a bit backwards she DH'd what would be the first climb. In this case it was our last DH on the loop. The skidding and dust clouds she creates don't bother her one bit. As things get sketchy she just starts laughing more and riding faster. All this fun for her without an expensive bike or real mountain biking attire. It's always a pleasure and such fun to ride with her. Her attitude has been a great example for me and Julia12.

Florita has been told about not fitting in to ride at times. This does not discourage her one bit. Roberthecat (Florita) keeps trying and hopefully will ride more with STR.

    Robertthecat truly enjoys riding!

In September you will see her at the loop. For now she took a temp job in Burbank. She is keeping herself on the bike out there by riding Griffth Park alone in the dark.

I try not to write about Julia12 because I am her mom and biggest fan. Today was not a good day. Julia is in band and color guard camp for two weeks. The camp is from 8 am - 4 pm. Today I recieved a phone call around 10:30 to pick Julia up. I thought she must not be feeling well. I rush to the school and Julia is sitting on a bench (NOT LOOKING SICK).:?: I inquire what's the emergency what's going on. They gave her drum line spot to another girl returning as a sophmore. Julia was upset Julia wanted to quit band.:-k Julia's point of view was it's unfair (just because I am a freshmen). Maybe it is but life is like that sometimes. Quitting is not our style. I give her a speech and we walk back to band class. The teacher doesn't seem as mean as she describes him. Julia will play the trumpet and take drum lessons her spare time (if she has any). She's played the trumpet before she will be fine. Most important if she loves the drums as much as she loves riding she will find a way to them.

The band teacher speaks up and explains Julia's concern about band.#-o Saturday's are a big possiblity it will be in the way of rides. Thursday's are a big possibility the fully loop. Julia gave him her bum knee as an excuse, because in band they have to run. Yet, she went to the BMX track on monday and the knee was not a problem if it was she didn't admit to it.;) Julia's concern instead of riding - I'll have to be at games playing a trumpet. I am sure she will have time for racing downhill regardless of the trumpet.:)

Julia will have to find the right balance and I am sure she will. Her passion as she calls it for riding is admirable. Julia is a young girl with a passion and it's not the trumpet.

    Great Post!

There's no doubt we have some kick ass women here that can ride the wheels off of a bike!

At the risk of sounding a bit self-centered, I would like to take the opportunity to give appreciation and props to women who got into riding for a slight different reason--to spend time with us!

How many of us guys have dragged their SO into our sports and hobbies so we can spend more time in them? We come up with all the reasons to convince them it's great for them and they love it too :D They know better, yet they do it for us. If the shoe is on the other foot, would we go to their floral arrangement classes? or even yoga classes?? 8-[

Regardless of reason, they flourish and excel. Now my wife sometimes beats me up the hill, she may catch a bigger fish than me, and she makes beautiful turns. So this is a tribute to my wife, for all that she does so we can spend time together and create wonderful memories together! :bang::bang::bang:

    Good point!
How many times have we convinced our SO's to "join-in" on OUR hobbies?
They do it so they can be with us!
Never thought of it that way before... :-k

Allow me to set the record straight:
Marie IS a better rider than you... She IS a better motorcyclist than you, she catches bigger fish than you AND she IS a better skier than you.... :)

THIS IS THE BEST PIC EVAR!!! I Love it! For some reason, it looks to me like a scene straight out of a modern Godzilla movie.

Thanks, Frankie. But to be honest, I think just about any bike is better than his IH...

Ouch! Did I type that out loud? Uhhhh...sorry sweetie! I was just playin...

I think it would be nice if the men made attempts to join the women in our hobbies as well!

No, Dino, I'm not referring to the scrapbooking! My video gaming life is suffering!

I think in one of the last Godzilla movies a famous Japanese actress did a cameo as a tourist in NY. She was posing for a picture flashing the "V" sign...then she was promptly squashed by a car thrown by an explosion!

Suggie, you are smart as you are good looking.
