Was out at practice yesterday in Fontana and the front tire washed in a simple corner,I tried to push bike out of way and slide it out, but ended up landing with my arm stretched out above my head and dislocated my shoulder. I knew what it was immediately and got off course then the pain hit. It was the worst pain I have ever felt. Traci was nice enough to take me to the ER and wait for me. The process took a long time, I got into a bed almost immediately, they gave me some pain killer injection that should take effect in a couple minutes and rolled me to get x-rayed. The pain meds didn't work, they tried some more and started to try and reset it, no luck with the meds or the reset attempts. They had me lay on stomach and try to reset it no dice. Had me lay that way and relax(it was the first time it didn't hurt like hell in that position). They tried again, no dice. Had me sit up and try again, no dice ( I could only take so much pain before i would lock up). Finally they decided to sedate me and got it in pretty easy no that I didn't really feel anything but them touching me. More X-rays and then finally they let Traci come back like 3 hours later. No idea how long I am out, have to see Ortho next week . Thanks to all my friends and teammates who helped take care of me and came to check on me in medical area at the race.
This thread is just no good without pictures! So sorry to see you at the med tent, dude. Feel better soon.
Have dislocated my right shoulder 7-8 times. The first time there was a guy who put it back in for me, every time after that I was able to do it myself.
very sorry to hear mark! The 2 big ones i had, they had to sedate me and hang weights to pull it out more before they could ram it home. Hopefully yours is a minor one and all you will need is rest and maybe some physical therapy. Happy healing my friend! and! at least its your left arm!
bummer on the injury mark. at least you got to partake in most of the winter series at least. hope it's not too bad and you can get out to riding more. oh, and thanks again for loaning me the CF card today  you guys make it too easy...seriously...
Aww Mark, what a bummer. 6 wks is my guess with rehab. Make sure you give it time to heal correctly and strengthen that shoulder, otherwise it'll be popping out all the time.
So sorry Mark, we didn't hear about it until dinner Saturday night. Sending healing vibes your way. P.S. I have lots of bike videos if you want to borrow them!
That's it! I'm not riding for a while with you guys..... I'll have to stick to a less dangerous sport like BBQ'ing. Take your time healing correctly before you start up again (better off in the long run). Happy healings to you.
Sorry to hear about that - sounds like it was quite painful. I once dislocated my hip and had a similar experience getting the sucker back in. Three orderlies and some morphine. Of course, I blew out the hip while BBQ'ing.
