SAN JUAN TO LOS PINOS LOOP

Advanced level ride - be sure to bring plenty of water and food
Meet at 7AM at the Live Oak shop parking lot for carpool, OR 8AM at the San Juan Trailhead.

Directions to San Juan Trail: From the I-5 in San Juan Capistrano take Ortega HWY (74) East for about 12 miles. Turn left on Camp Road. There is a sign for the Lazy R Ranch as well as a CDF Fire Station on the corner.

Ride route and description from Jesse, the ride leader:
"First 7 miles are a climb, letting off a little into the canopies of Live Oak on the Upper San Juan plateau, where we will take a break before heading up 2 miles of Main Divide fire and brimstone called "The Wall". When we get to the Los Pinos trailhead the fun starts as we approach the 9 mile descent into Lazy Double-U Ranch in Hot Springs Canyon, leading into multiple hike-a-bikes up the many knolls on Los Pinos ridge. Likewise, the trail itself has some real "steeps" that should be loose right about this time of year. Luckily for all of the fatigue and injury that this loop will inflict I will come prepared to counteract them with ice-cold beverages, chocolate, and a BBQ (BYOM)- in the van."

 

I know it's gonna be warm, but Sunday's "Singe Track" ride sounds brutal! :lol:

 

But lots of fun! Just be sure to bring LOTS of water to drink and some food.

From Santiago Canyon Road turn on Silverado Canyon Road. Make a left on Black Star Canyon Road. Drive until you reach the locked gate. Park anywhere here off the side of the road. Parking is free.

GT Bicycles is coming out to join us on our Saturday Weekly Shop Rides, and they're bringing their demo truck with some bikes to try out.
Come out to the Tustin shop at 6AM to demo a bike. We'll be headed out to Aliso Woods Canyon View Park entrance to meet up for the Saturday morning shop ride starting at 7:15 AM.

Bikes available to demo:

This week will be an advanced level 40-miler. Bring plenty of water and snacks for the ride. It's going to be hot, and we plan to keep a moderate pace. We're meeting early to beat the heat.

Route: Pedal through the canyon to the Maple Springs trailhead. all the way to the peak, then down upper joplin, lower joplin, climb out of old camp, down to flag at the Luge, then to Cooks then road ride back to the cars.
Directions: From Santiago Canyon Road turn on Silverado Canyon Road. Make a left on Black Star Canyon Road. parking at the Tree Farm right at the entrance to Blackstar rd.
