Ok, so here it is, the I LOVE/HATE shuttling thread. Where you can express your opinions nicely and have an unheated debate on the subject.

    I'll start:

    Go ahead and hate me

So, if I can't climb it, I'm not allowed to ride it?????:lol:

Some of us like to start at the top of a trail and ride down (on various types of bikes). If we park a car at the bottom then drive up to the top we call it a "Shuttle". Sometimes I give people gas money so I can ride with them instead of being said "shuttle vehicle".

You cannot and will not stop me!!! (Insert mad, hysterical laughter here). ;)

P.S. I did enjoy riding up and down SJT but Roger HATED the climb and swore he would never do it again. I guess I'll just have to shuttle him!!!!:bang:

I'm not a shuttle monkey myself but then I consider the downhill the penalty that must be paid for the beautiful climb ;)

    I will shuttle ANYTHING I can. :)

    if there's a shuttle for a 10ft climb, I'll do it.

However if I must climb, then I will.

Go ahead ask Neil the *SS climbing machine* where he has been for the past 3 days?

He'll tell you: "Shuttling" or riding lift assisted trails with zero climbing  (well maybe just a little) on a 45+ lb bike.

Even those who climb up often - like the ride down and sometimes will shuttle it.

NO HATING HERE:Thanks Nancy for posting this....

How about, fat, out of shape and old!!!! Does that count? ;)

If all I did was ride DH would that mean that I am not considered a Mountain Biker? I am sad. :-(

Dear Mods, can we have a Private Downhill only section so we can enjoy ourselves without being beaten down all the time, PLEASE!!!! I think MTBeer has a DH specific thread, don't they??

To each it's own. Not passing judgment here! So long as the two main ingredients are present and active; courtesy & respect for other trail users. Happy trails!

I hate those lazy shuttle scums when I'm climbing, they interupt my flow.
I also hate those xc weenies when I'm shuttling, they interupt my flow.

While i personally love to shuttle, I don't mind to hike up if there is no option to shuttle. Even if I can't be lazy, I still want to ride.

1 word: I think it's funny that people actually take time to care if someone else shuttles and never climbs. Who cares?? Just get out and ride--in whichever form/style/discipline you wish.

I've barely got enough time to worry about my own crap, let alone someone else's.

That being said, shuttling is fun. So is climbing.

I don't mind climbing at all. And if shuttling is your thing, by all means.

But I do hate the shuttlers on SJT who seem to think that the trail is their own private race course and fail to yield to anybody who might be in their way.

Likewise. Pedaling a near 40 Lb bike, with almost 8 inches of travel, up hills is not much fun. Going down is SOOOOO much funner!! (and yes I know funner is not a real word)

Just to let you know, when we used to shuttle SJT, we did yield to those that were climbing. It was back in the days of the dinosaurs when there wasn't as much uphill traffic.

There are rude riders on every trail, just make sure you don't lump all shuttlers/downhillers together. Some of us are actually good people.
