Rode Troy lee the other day and was super bummed to see all the ruts from Moto's. Would be super bummed if the same thing happened to the luge. Moto's have their place, primo single track aint it. They can keep Cadillac

Asshole move is riding the Luge on dirt bikes, if a couple Motos went down it a week it would destroy the trail. if I see it again I will be an Asshole and call.

    +1

I realize hikers feel the same way about mt. bikers, but motos can destroy a trail in no time with just a flick of the right wrist. Not to mention the disparity in weight and momentum should there be a collision.

A friend of mine was hit last year by a moto coming up the Luge. No major injuries but pretty banged up. I wasn't there but apparently they yelled at each other for a bit and then parted ways. No report taken or anything like that. It seems like as long as there is easy access from the Luge exit then we will continue to have this problem. Luckily the Luge handles the traffic pretty well. Joplin on the other hand had a lot more tire damage and displaced rocks when I was up there yesterday. Even if a deputy or ranger manged to catch a moto rider on the Luge or Joplin it would likely be tough to defend the citation since there are no signs or indication that the luge is off limits to motorized traffic. As I recall, the Luge is not even a forest service trail so I doubt anyone will do anything if someone calls.

It would be nice if people respected the time and effort people put into building trails and keeping them maintained but that is largely not the case. It's similar to speed limits and parking rules on private streets. You can post them all you want but if there are no real risks associated with breaking them then they will not be followed.

Did full loop to Ol camp from Whiting, Mustard showed evidence of any rain. STT ol camp and Luge is in pristine shape as tho it never rained. Did not see any roosters or what not of that nature.

My first trail work project, about 40 years ago(!), was ruined by motos within 15 minutes of completion, so I've had to work hard at accepting their presence on trails that are closed to them. But it's inevitable in a crowded place like Orange County, and certainly made worse by the lack of signage and locked gates.

Fortunately, most of the riders I've run across on the STT have been respectful and ridden without tearing things up. I feel for them with so few local options, and usually just inform them that certain trails are off-limits and ask them to take it easy. I'm less accepting of 4-wheeled vehicles as they turn single track into roads.

Has anyone hit the trails today in OC? I'm thinking of heading over to the Luge this afternoon, but curious what the trails are like at Whiting, Aliso, and Santiago Oaks after yesterday's rain. I figure the Luge is the best bet (short of going to San Juan), but not sure if that would still be too muddy today going up STT.

I guess I can always dust off the road bike as a last resort.

I believe we can thank Jeff Jennings for the recent work that was done to clean it up. I don't believe he's an STR member.

Chris - that is Jim Jennings and yep, he is Kioti here on STR. We also owe him for the swoopy fun that Meadows has become too.

He cleaned up well, my best time of 3minute flat on a HT, Excellent work. Knowing the place, i actually slowed a bit before certain section's (as i usually do)- but not Sunday. Someone should KOM while in pristine shape.

Mario - It's not Jeff, it's Jim Jennings. And he's been in AZ for a while, so hasn't done any Luge work for quite a while. Your 3 minutes flat on a hardtail must have been courtesy of mother nature, or someone else's shovel.

Kioti, are you back? Kevinator says you've returned. He's been keeping up the trails in Whiting. Ryan's been tending 5-Oaks.
