Has anyone ridden to santiago peak or 4 corners this week. I'm in need of a bug report before my Sat's traverse ride.
Not sure how it is down south, but all of a sudden we got 'Squitos big time tonight - big effin gallon nippers.
I've been told the big suckers are "giant crane flies": http://kids.yahoo.com/animals/insects/3865--Giant+Crane+Fly Tons of them out these days . . . . Went through a pocket of little fellers tonight too. Felt like I was getting 'gnat-blasted'
Yep Craig is right, they don't weight anything and pack small. Plus you can look like a rock-star on the trail. :steppie:
I don't know about Santiago, but the gnats were pretty gnarly at Laguna Lake on the Loop tonight. I had a few instead of a Gu.
Any idea on where to pick one of these up? I've seen hikers and a few mtn bikers with them. I'll at least be able to ride with my eyes open
I bought them at Walmart. I paid 1.25 for them. I bought 5 and I still have two left. They are easy to keep in the hydropack.
We call those Mayflies, but that's not what I am talking about. These are the real deal biting mosquitos.
Two weeks ago was pretty bad. Blowing or swatting gnats away all the way up MS. Bigger black ones all over the place at Four Corners. None seemed to bite, but wear glasses and keep your mouth closed. One had me pretty choked up at one point.
