Wow, three times up Mathias... I would need to ride this with someone, because it would be too easy to quit. Not today

I did Mathis 3 times in a row, Up, down, up down, up and over to TOW and down Meadows. Back up to Cholla down Linx, up Cholla again and down Rock It, Coyote, Dripping Cave and out. That was my mini tour. ;)

My esteemed riding colleague, Herzalot, puts me at 5:15 up Cholla. He thinks if I stuck with my middle chainring throughout the entire climb I could be up on top sub-5. (Gonna try the middle chainring thing tomorrow)

As for Mathis-- I've done it in 15 flat.

Going up Rock-It didn't take too long-- gonna time it the next time up.

Climbing up Meadow is my next challenge.

I'm going to try and be there but on one condition...you play a sweet jazz flute for motivation all the way up...Burgundy style.

All done, I might add, on a screaming yellow custom made beast of a SS with drop bars! Holy Moly.

I'm not sure how everyone else feels but for me, on Rock-it, if you're not climbing up the rockgarden from start to finish, you're not really climbing it. The P-line does not count! I'll post up Rock-it next when we get done with Cholla! I want to see some new best times from the weekend!

Speaking of rough starts-- I always begin my Aliso loops making that left turn into Dripping Cave and climbing up to the top to the beginning of that fun single track that dumps out to the trail leading to Mathis (to the left) or Coyote (to the right)-- don't know the exact name (anyone?). My regular riding partners (Herzalot especially) just love to do this climb with me at the start of every ride to get the juices flowing. I believe it's a 28% grade at the steepest part.

Exactly-- IMO, the p-line is actually a pain climbing cuz the soil is softer. I get way better traction on the rocks.

Gene, you are certifiable with that mini-tour!

Can't remember the last time I went down Cholla, but next time I get a chance to hit it on a weekday, I'll have to time it both ways.

As for climbing Mathis, peeps should clarify the start/stop points there too. Are we talking about going up to the kiosk, or all the way to TotW? Never timed myself on that climb, but I could easily imagine myself pushing too hard for precious seconds, blowing up on the lower 1/4, and ending up with a time of about an hour and a half

    I call this one:
"I'm f'n cold, lets find the first sun on the trail at 7AM"

One of my favorite ways to warm up.

For me that's reverse dripping cave because I always do it backwards coming off Rock-it to Coyote as extra credit. It really is Dripping cave after the bridge coming from the main trail to Mathis going up the park. But you're right, that's a sweet little climb!

I'd go for it now, but I do not want to kill my knees 2 weeks before the VQ
. I killed my knees last year by big ringing climbs like Mustard, Cholla, Mathis, Meadows and Big Red...., all in the name of "to see if I can". #-o Big ringing it will not get up the hills faster either unless you can really turn that gear over at a quick cadence. I'll wait till after the Traverse to go for my best time.

I'll go for that. It's cool to see that balloon moving right along and there will be no doubt it's legit.
