    From A Norcal Thread

"Took us four hours to get down today. IMO, Lotta snow hiking. Ankle to knee deep in spots. No sunrise, butcher is snowy still. On the bike for twenty feet, off for 50, repeat until about 0.3 mi before the waterfall/rockgarden. Bring extra socks. Gotta ford a few streams that are a lil deep, overall it was fun tho.

I was planning on coming to the mtbr gathering, but after seeing all the damn snow, not gunna happen. I'll be back when it melts

For as hot as it was, there's ALOT of damn snow left."

I may bail you guys. My vacation days are too precious to waste hiking epic trails in the snow. :?:

it should be melting pretty damn fast:

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 73. Light wind becoming southwest between 10 and 13 mph.

Sunday Night: Clear, with a low around 44. West wind at 11 mph becoming northeast.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 81. Northeast wind 9 to 11 mph becoming west southwest.

Monday Night: Clear, with a low around 50. West southwest wind at 9 mph becoming east northeast.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 85.

Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 51.

Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 82.

Wednesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 48.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 79.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 49.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 81.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 50.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 84.

i used to spend lots of time in that area (BITD), and there was never any snow at that eievation after fathers day. what's left should be melting fast...

Man, I don't know Doug! I'm so conflicted! Packer saddle and everything is up pretty high. Temps could be 10 degrees cooler than down below. :?:

    go Go GO!

Please remember that Butcher itself is in the trees so snow melt could be hindered a bit but honestly I've been there the last 3 years and there has always been snow:bang:.
Eithers its in clumps on the fireroad going to Pauley or on the trail at Sunrise...I always thought that was the norm;).

Agreed Liz, it does sound like there is quite a bit of white stuff above 6k ft so it could make it "interesting" and the Yuba Expeditions website has a pretty accurate update as of yesterday on what trails are open and what the conditions are like.

Sadly with a heavy heart I will not be able to attend this year as work has me staying me at work#-o....my final chance to go will be known Monday but I am not holding my breath.

It's always been worth the trip, its Downieville!!

I'm going Neil. My issue was vacation days taken to schlep through the snow. Truth is, I'll leave Friday and that will save a day of vacation and then I'll go up again in July or August or September or October.
    Hope you can make it!

Grasshoppers... remember that life is a series of adventures... a little sun... a little rain.... a little mud ... and a little snow... so what! it's called mountain biking and in the mountains all sorts of things can happen... including a little snow. We ran into it last year along with rain... a still had a total blast and I'm going back for more this year... and a little thing like back surgery is not going to stop me.

Do not be in the position of not going and wishing you had...

Gene and I will see you up there.

Shoot I think it's going to be just Gillmartin (grandpa) and myself from all the other buds from all the years past that will be making it up.

There is always excellent riding along the Yuba River, just not all downhill you have to work for it.

Some of you have been asking about Loaded components after I posted pics of the new Dare.

For those of you who will be up at the Downieville Classic, come by and see me at the Loaded booth. I'll have plenty of product (stems, rims, seatposts, bars, pedals, hubs) some show bikes, t-shirts, etc.
