Can tecnu protect someone as allergic to PO as me? Well we shall know soon enough. Today I accidently stepped in some poison oak at whiting. Luckily I had the tecnu bottle in my camelbak and smothered my leg with it at least 5 times today. If there is no rash in a week I will praise Tecnu and send that company a thank you letter. Thanks to Matt for being patient while I rubbed Tecnu on myself several times today. to be continued . . .
Was that the stuff you are supposed to put on BEFORE exposure or after? What time/where were you guys? We started a bit late and had quite a few mechanicals...hard to believe we didn't cross paths...
The stuff you put on before is IvyBlock. Tecnu is the stuff you put on afterwards (the sooner the better). Directions say it's most effective within the first two hours. We saw your cars there and figured you guys did a long ride up to old camp or something. We started a bit late also cause we hung out at the BikeCo a bit. Just rode inside Whiting. I figured we might see you guys come to eat where we were also. We ate at the BBQ spot next to Wahoo's. (good food btw)
I've never knowingly come into contact with PO. I always seem to find out about it just under a week later. Yesterday, I discovered one small bubble right above my riding sock line on the front of my left ankle. That PO contact would have taken place last Saturday with Matt on SJT. The largest PO area I've ever found on myself was around 1" diameter. I must be lucky.
Hope that works for you George. As a kid I did not have to touch PO to get it, just near it. During the spring time I seemed to have it most of the time and a couple times a year bad cases of it. Were I grew up, Nor-Cal, Sonoma and Mendocino Counties we have Poison Oak and Poison Ivy and much thicker and more common that down here. I worked as a firefighter for CDF in Willits CA and after that have never had it again. My point is that is my case I seem to have devolped some kind of resistance to it. I still respect it and stay away if I see it but so far so good. I got swatted across my bare arm by PO this week on El Prieto and so far no reaction.
Thanks Dean, that at least gives me some hope that it won't be like this forever. And for those that are wondering - the Tecnu didn't do sh*t. Perhaps it diluted it and spread it across all my legs cause it's on just about my entire leg below my knees down to my sockline. Already have more prescription hydrocortisone and steroids though. Matt took a couple photos with his camera.
Bummer Gonz!!!! At this point you have nothing to loose and should give the IvyBlock a try next. I say you write 'dem foo's a letter saying their stuff didn't do squat. rotest: I don't know if it will do anything, other than get it off your chest. Maybe they are working on a super-secret super-extra-strength formulation...
Bummer Man, that really sucks. ](*,) There's another brand of treatment. I forget the name but it's pretty expensive. I've seen it in the store and I've read it works better than Tecnu. Seriously, I would wear arm and leg warmers whenever you ride. I would put up with being hot over dealing with that rash every time I rode. C

I think you should make your own blend of all 3 products and load yourself up with it and then wear warmers over that. You could call it ZanTec-off.
I say you wear a full body spandex suit. Seriously, that is a bummer Gonzolarolaroid. I might buy some stock in some of these companies if you keep riding. :lol:
I'm also prone to getting PO. But no where as bad as your dosage... I have better luck using "CalaGel" to get rid of it. I picked it up @SavOn. Hope your back on the trails soon...
