Specialized is offering to give me an SX Trail for my broken Enduro. I am not asking you how it compares to Enduro's. I get that. I want to know what you think about the SX Trail compared to other DH type bikes like V10, Iron Horse Sunday, Turner DHR, BigHit, Demo, etc. I am moving to an area next to Santa Cruz and was already planning on adding a DH rig to my stable. I'm worried the SX is a little steeper than I would have gotten and now I emd up with a DH bike that is not as agressive as I wanted and is heavier then my Enduro, so I'm left with a tweener bike that doesn't meet any of my needs.
So, how does the SX Trail perform? Do you love it or would you leave it?

I recall someone (SimonMTB) saying he had some concerns, but don't remeber what they were.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I wouldnt compare it to a V10, Sunday, or DHR cause its not a true DH bike like those you mentioned. Its more of a super aggressive AM, FR, Light DH. I have seen many people ride them on DH trails w/ great success though. Saw a guy rock Telonix with one the other day. Pretty cool frame if you ask me. Allows you to pedal around where you need to go and destroy it on the way down... I would say its far more aggressive then the Enduro.

well, i personally say yay, depending on the build. I demo'd one and found them to be great am rigs... kinda like an Enduro but as you noted more on the heavy side.. and I think they are more gnarly.. yes they cannot be compared to the V10 by any means but maybe a nomad or a 575 range is somewhat comparable.. i say yay but make them give you a sweet ass kit for your troubles.. if you do get it keep us posted

from what I hear, they're really fun bikes. more of a park bike though, and more akin to jumps etc. than bombing a hill really really fast.

around santa cruz, you're likely to find somewhere to use that bike (lots of good, flowy, jumpy, fun trails).

if you want a DH sled though, perhaps see if they'll give you a demo, or if you can arrange to pay them extra for it. I hear the new demo8's are sweet. who knows, they may go for it :?:

I pedaled one around at one of specialized demo at the loop. It was on the heavy side, i think they said 38 at the demo. I would say it's in the same catagory of the Reign X or Intense SS. Well those are bikes I have ride that are simular at least. Out of those 3 it's my least favorite as it was heaviest and to me pedalled the worst. Are they offering complete bike or frame? I would see what other options they are even if you have to add some $.

They're checking on the Demo or BigHit option now. The SX would have come with a Fox RP3 air shock specially tuned for the SX. That doesn't sound so good to me. I'm a big guy and coil seems like the right next evolution for me as I step up my rig. I'm starting to lean towards holding out for the Enduro frame and waiting to buy the right DH rig for me (or going for the upgrade to Demo). I really don't think I want to get stuck with an SX, lose my all around trail riding bike, but not quite get the big bike I think I need/want for Demo and Northstar type riding.
Ohh so many choices! It's good to have bike problems.

. yeah if they are saying it has RP23 then it's going to be the SX not the SX trail. I don't think the SX is complete only frame but it's nothing like the enduro it's a 100mm bike for 4x And DS

So they came back with this...2008 Enduro Pro Carbon. They're throwing in the rear shock too, although I'm checking to see if they will fit it with the DHX 5.0 coil. If this all came together, I think I would have a nice buff AM bike (with a lifetime warranty) that is lighter than what I had, but a fresh new frame.
This put's me back in the market for a DH rig.

    One more thing...it's been emotional:)!

By the way...thanks for all the support. I posted initial question at 10:30a and had all this response from you, my trusted STR, by 11:50a. Who doubts the power of the web!

Get them to give you a Demo 8 or SX Trail...

IMO, I would opt for the SX Trail, just cause I'm a lighter rider and it seems more fun and more flickable than the Demo 8. SX Trail would be a better all-around bike than the Demo 8, too. Doesn't have enough weight to completely kill you when you pedal it up hill, but when you get to the top it'll shred or fly its way down. SX Trail looks like a bike that looks like it likes to be jumped and dropped.

Enduro. That's a sick sick deal.

I owned a top of the line 2007 sx trail.
I tried in vain to make it my do-it-all-bike.
It was a truly lousy peddler (even with an adjustable travel fork).
And this is coming from a serious horst-link fan.
