While waiting for my oil change today I drove this(Mitsu Evolution).... fast indeed. Interior has no bling...but the look and engine make it worthwhile. Lose the wing tho ;) 35K

    update!

Test drove a MazdaSpeed 3...very nice car! Great interior, respectably quick, handling is "OK"...coming from a tuned 350z my opinion is a bit skewed.

The price is right too...selling them at invoice price currently since they need to move inventory.

Now to sell my 350z..and I'll be in the clear..

Wow, I knew a lot of people owned Subi's and Mitsi's and this thread def confirmed it. I also learned some new things about the car I've owned since 2003 which is an '04 WRX wagon. It is silver and black with aftermarket tint, a rear Thule T2, top Thule sidearm and kayak rack. After almost 80,000miles I still love to drive it and am still amazed at how much gear my girl and I can fit in it. In between trips across most of the western portion of the country and a few into Mexico I have had to replace the first two gears under warrantee (recalled to to a glitch apparently), recover it once with lojack after it was stolen in La Jolla, and recently I had work done on the shiftbox, likely because I've rallied it and driven like dumb&*^$ a few times. What I have learned about Subaru WRX's in this time includes the following:
Purchase the correct tires, hard to drive all that good stuff on crap rubber. I suggest high performance all season tires.
When properly maintained this baby will drive perfect for, well almost 80,000miles and counting. I've never had the ac, brake or other problems mentioned previously.
Don't expect this car to remain beautiful. When you drive to DH races in Mexico kids are going to pile dirt against your hood and make a jump. When you go to bootleg your going to want to rally and kick up rocks. When you use it for everyday errands and picking up four people at the airport, people are going to ding it. Mine has numerous mini-dents and scratches and much like my bike...that adds character.
Oh, and people obviously want to steal it so get lojack and also put in a kill switch so if they get in they can't go anywhere.
Unfortunately there are two problems with the car: 1. It uses premium gas, you know the highest priced one out there. So as a biker taking long trips...
    2. It gets crappy gas mileage. Only 26mpg new on the hywy and now 23ish. Its an inexpensive sports car despite its incredible ability to be perhaps the ideal mountain bike vehicle, so I will not purchase one when mine finally dies 20 years from now unless they start to improve mpg.
As far as other choices. Damn that new Evo X is hot. The Beamer, Lexus, Audi, etc group is too much for my pocket. The new STi looks like a project gone wrong despite its amazing technical ability. For pure utility I don't think you can do much better than the Subi Forester but once again most of these vehicles are poor on mpg and all-wheel-drive is still not 4 wheel drive so there are places you can't go. Of course I once saw a bike rack on a ferrari in downtown SD so anything is possible.
Let us all know what you purchase please.

Oh, SDYeti, I'll take that "too young" comment as a compliment:)

sweet, i would invest in a front mount intercooler if you plan on doing any mods to the car since i've read a lot of the small stock top mount heat soaking.

    DAMN!

who knew a FMIC would give you that much benefit. The stock intercooler must be just effective enough that the engine doesn't tank. Thanks dude - I'll have to look into that kit.

Told ya! All these Mazda haters must have driven a Mazda 3 and not a MS3.

BTW, I'm a diehard Nissan guy, having owned 2 SR20DET powered vehicles, so I'm not biased in anyway. There are just tons of options now in that segment.
