There is some sort of mix up as one announcement says closed through the 9th and the other on the WS site says re-opened on the 9th. I called the USFS and left a message. I will pass on any info regarding the re-opening. I scheduled it for Monday cause I'm off, I have to work Sun.
I figure it would super busy if it opens on sunday so why fight the crowds which should be a lot smaller on a monday even if its open on sunday
The Luge doesn't look the same as it did before the fire. Most of the drops are gone, as well as the vegetation. Hopefully in time it will return. A SS would be perfectly fine on this ride now, if that's all you got. Hopefully I'll still be able to make it :bang:
you sound like you have ridden it recently... however you are correct.. after looking it up on youtube, a few of the sections have changed.. it looks a bit more mild although it has become more overgrown
I just received a call from Debra Clarke from the USFS and she informed me that the closure is in effect THROUGH the 9th which means the forest opens on the 10th.
Pretty smart if you ask me......filming yourself poaching a closed trail.......then posting it publically.....on the same page that has a link to a news interview with your name and face on it. #-o :-k.
I actually saw that video a while back, but thought maybe he was a Warrior or part of the crew doing trail maintenance. Apparently not... Back to the topic on hand. I think I'll be bringing lights for this ride. Sunset will be a little bit before 5. With a group this size, we may take a while with re-groups, mechanicals, etc. Picking my way down the Luge in darkness isn't one of my favorite things to do
shiet i remember the first time i rode with you.. we were waiting for freakin duke777 and it was pretty dark and i had no lights... i had to try and follow you down in the dark #-o only dabbed once tho :bang: riding luge in the dark is nuts
They'll be no waiting for Duke777 this year. I hear he does a road century every weekend. Good point. I rode down the luge several years ago with Craig and young Matt. Matt's lights went out and he rode between us. It was still a little dicey. If you're leading a large group with lots of stops Gene. Better plan on having them strap on the lights.
haha ya i remember that. My minewt kept coming unplugged. Were you there that one night with chaos when that guy(i dont remember who) flatted twice near old camp and we didnt notice he was gone till the flag pole. I climbed almost all the way to old camp and finally found him. He was freaked out being out there alone.
Yep that was me. JCampbell kept flatting up in the canopy area by Old Camp. We all didn't notice he was gone till we got to the flag. And had to turn around and go back up to look for him. I miss Ch4os. I hear he's bumping around Texas turning 3:1 ratio on his singlespeed. Lots of good times up on the STT/Luge. Can't wait to go back.
I was wondering what happened to Steve............ The thing that sux is that the canopy is gone. That section got cut down by the fire fighters and wrecked by the bull dozer. And theres been guys 4x4ing(illegaly) on it
I have been helping with the trail work done on the Luge. Most of the time we hike up the trail and carry tools, but this past weekend we were able to ride our bikes up towards Old Camp and removed a downed tree that was blocking the trail. It was fun coming down the Luge and "inspecting" the trail work.:bang::?: Guero: The drops I was referring to were just the step downs on the trail....I say potato, you say ..... Does anyone else remember the drops? ~cc
Hey Carl Stop spreading false rumors, I only do the easiest century once a year and pretend I have a broken bike so I can ride in the support vans.:bang: I'll be at cooks corner around 6:30 with jay and maybe chewyeti!
