Just a note... my rep (Moorlach) indicated to me that this was not Measure M money.
I'd like to know if there is any authoritative statement on which bucket of funds this purchase would come from...
    Anyone?

This issue is agenda item number 24 during tomorrows board meeting. I'll be getting there at the beginning and I will try and get a time frame for when the issue will be discussed.

I think you missed my point. Look at jae2460's letter. Awesome. We don't have to tell them we vote, they know that. They can read between the lines. I am providing my perspective from a person who deals with legal matters on a daily basis - and as a former government teacher I absolutely cherish our rights and responsibilities. My point was you get more allies when you stop short of threatening.

I don't understand the legal implications of this. I thought that if there is property that is "trespassed" on to get to public property, after a period of so many years, that property is declared an easement and belongs to the public. If the property owner has given permission for the passing of people, they can take back that permission and restrict the passing at any time. If we've been passing on it since 1930, I would think it was public. The sign is new, and the rep is recognizing that we've been passing on it. Am I wrong? My property is all fenced off, so I don't have to deal with these issues ;)

Is this winery the same one that the community had lodged noise complaints against when the winery sought to have weddings and parties there? Are they just being vindictive?

I'm here now and the meeting starts at 9:30. With it being item #24 on the agenda, this discussion may not be heard till noon. Really all depends how many are speaking on behalf of the other items before. Then again, people who have submitted a slip to speak leave and things move along.

According to the agenda staff report, the 2.3 million is an eligible expense of the "Orange County Devolpment Agency".

Looks like I can't get away from work to go. Hopefully all goes well.

The Board of Supervisors site says they're already in Closed Session. That should mean, I think, that they already talked about agenda item #24. Any update from those that are there?

I left just before noon to get back to my office. It did not look like agenda item 24 was going to be called before lunch.

The closed session may have been for another item. Lots of panic in the county over prop 172 (loss of county revenue from drivers license renewal fees). Not a good time to be a county employee.

It said something about them handling closed-session items when they break for lunch at noon. Maybe they're taking a long lunch and will handle item #24 later this afternoon.

Kudos to those who are there since 9:30am hoping to voice their opinion / hear the outcome / provide us the update. Wish I could be there.

YES IT PASSED 3 to 2!!!!

It was so close. We heard the arguments for and against and I knew from that we had Supervisor Nguyen. Supervisors Moorlach and Nelson were completely opposed to the purchase and it came down to Supervisor Bates of the 5th District which is mostly South County cities since Campbell was on board from the start. Bates asked about wildlife corridor impact and I feel the deciding factor was when Director of Parks Mark Denny assured her that it would not change since OC already is the biggest wildlife corridor to the southern regions, she then came on board.
THANK YOU TO SUPERVISORS CAMPBELL, NGUYEN, BATES and County Park Director Mark Denny.

I didn't think it would've either. I am so grateful. I will send an e-mail and letter to Supervisors who voted for it, but I wonder / wish there was an even better way to show / express gratitude to them.

I sincerely feel what they did is the best thing for Orange County and that spending $2 million on anything today took a certain amount of courage on their behalf. I understand where Moorlach and Nelson were probably coming from on it, but I disagree with them--there are moments in time which must be seized, opportunities which can't be missed and this is clearly one of them.

That is awesome! Great job STR and especially Gene getting the word out, and keeping us updated. I'd like to think the emails and petitions we all sent in, had something to do with swaying Supervisor Bates' vote.
