It was a pleasure being the qasi-leader of the A group, once Scheetz showed up, the SS'ers decided to show the rest of us what a waste of time gears are!
Today was a great reminder that no matter how much STR grows, it really still is a family, and lots of good people on here. For the size of the group, I don't know how the ride could have gone much smoother. Thanks for putting this together Gene, CC, and everyone else who made phone calls and such to get this organized!

Great ride today. After all the training rides leading up to the VQ, it's nice to do a few of these fun rides.

I was sweeping the "B" group and we had lots of riders so we got pretty stretched out. Some struggled a bit so thanks to the guys who took over the rear ("C" group) so I can take the others and catch up to the "B" group. Let me know who you are so I can edit this and add your name.

After getting to the gate, we had a few do the extra credit and some bailed out due to time. You can say for sure we had a "B+" a "B-" and even a "C+" group. No ride is complete without some carnage and we had a few. Hope all is healing well and your wounds aren't so bad. Props to Curtis aka clumpymold for finishing the ride, you're a trooper. All in all, from talking to riders after the ride and the writeups, it's pretty certain we all had a blast.

I want to thank all the leaders and sweeps for the guidance. Jason aka jfromlv leading and the birthday boy himself Mike aka Mr. PainFreak for sweeping the "A" group. Looks like you guys had a great ride.

Thanks to CC, Nancy aka denmother and Roger, Victor aka VTVic and to guys who lead the "C" group as far as they could go before they headed back. Thanks OMR and mtnbkrdavid for hanging back and to mtnbikerfred for guiding the injured clumpymold back as well. As always thanks to the WS for providing the sodas and a huge shout out to Incycle for supporting the ride with free tuneups and things for the ride. You guys all rock. :bang:

This was going to be the last Newbie ride I organized, but after today, who knows. ;) Thanks to all for making this ride a success.

Big thanks to STR for putting this on, was a blast. Showed up late after riding my bike from Cucamonga..... caught up with the pack fairly quickly. Rode with the "B+" crew- Dizle, Adam, BananaUp, Kritter, and Dizle's buddy..... Good times!!!!

1FG you loved it! Just stop doing your Neil (1x1Clyde) impersonation and running those teeny sprockets in the back.

Seriously, I got hot on the way to Potato, and I stopped a few times to let my HR get back down from max. Allison's got some great shots of me standing and walking but she was nice and didn't post'em!

Thanks to everyone for a great day...from the ride organizers to the leaders and sweepers to everyone who showed up to make the memories happen! Weather was great, too!

I rode with the A group and found the pace somewhat challenging but not too hard. I enjoyed trying to keep up with Rut and Hugh and all the other SS mashers...I need to ride with you guys more.

I almost had a close encounter of the smashing kind with Bambi...a deer ran across the road about 10 feet away from me as I was bombing down a fireroad section! Whew!

The descent down Webb was a blast, and I can't wait to come back out and hit it on my DH bike!

    STR is the best :D

All pictures courtesty of Dan (Man blong Gaua), my better half.

clumpymold, glad you are ok dude. as we rode by the scene of your crash, all I heard was Fred saying, "You might want to have this x-rayed."

I thought to myself, "oh shit, I hope this guy isn't taking medical advice from Fred..."

Here's to the many Advil you will be taking in the coming days.

Thanks John, but with STR Hurkey campout, Fruita, The Traverse, The Toad Festival, Downieville, WS rides, Patrols with SHARE and the FS, I don't know when there's time. I doubt most will wait till JULY to have one cause that'll be the next time I can post one.

Clumbymold, hope you recover well and please don't let this stop you from coming out again to hit the trails. It only gets better. You're definitely a trooper for continuing to ride after your crash and even while cramping. Looknig forward to seeing you out there again.:bang:

The rumor is that the Mayor Dino Brown was not out at this great event, but I'm sure its just a rumor. Pretty sure I just missed him as he was busy welcoming all the new faces. I'm still scanning everyone's pictures trying to find him...:-k

Whaaaa! There's no such thing as an invasion unless you have 100+ riders out there ;)

Gene, again, thanks for putting this together. Great meeting you and looking forward to seeing you out there again.

Like mike I need to stop caving into peer pressure too. My HR was sky high today, just didn't feel 100%. Definitely wasn't prepared on how hot it was today.

BTW you are an animal Karl! You made it to the top with beer on your SS, you are my hero.
