Had a as good as I could expect race. I have had very little time on any bike for last 4 months and knew I would just run out of gas way before the run was over. I was happy with my run up top , wasn't fastest I could ride but tried to save something for the wall, well that plan failed I was out of gas at the cul de sac rode the lower rock garden very conservative( wanted to just make it through at this point) then pedaled as much as I could down the wall. Ended up last (kinda figured I would come in last) but closer in time then I thought. Still had a good weekend and had fun with friends so I can't complain.

awesome XC race. loved the conditions. too bad so many XC racers are too weak to race in some sprinkles. :) wonder if the sprinkles will make for easy victories next weekend? ;)

It was a cool day. showed up this morning to shoot the race and some practice. looked like a fun course, even if it wasnt the most challenging in the world. only made better by fontucky hero dirt. I wanted to go hit corner so bad all day, conditions were just perfect.

but you all hate reading, so some here's some colorful pictures to look at.

One dilemma of DH racing is trying to balance your desire to go as fast as possible with the need to stay on course and on your line (and on your bike). Another challenge is to gauge just how much energy you have and meter it out appropriately as the race goes on. I imagine the second one is especially difficult in XC races.

Personally, I completely f-ed up the first of these challenges. I stayed too conservative so I could hit all my lines and not have any drama. One can guess the result. That's what happens when you race to get a result vs race to go as fast as you can. Ended up with neither. I did fine as far as energy goes - I stood up and pedaled the entire length of the intermediate road to the lower rock garden and the wall. Legs cramped a little right after the finish line.

Thanks photogs for all the pics. The nice thing about being slow is I had plenty of time to pose for the photographers.
Thanks again to all who helped prepare the track.

Had a fun time winning my class in sport XC. Great conditions and I was enjoying the ride as well. Still have work to do time wise, but overall happy I raced well. As always, I just want to shave off 2 minutes from my time.

Thanks for takin pics out there. You were in a primo spot. I was scared for Eric especially when I saw that rider drifting to the right.

I was the guy in the green Puma jacket (69N) that drifted straight towards Eric (sorry!). I preloaded over some rocks and didn't get my bike pointed properly before hand and it put me at the inside of that turn instead of the outside, oops, ha.

Nice photos. I wondered who was shooting pictures at that location. This thread will probably be merged to the Southridge #4 thread in Racing and Training.
