I just signed up for Boggs II 8-hour solo (Norba race in Cobb) and Sea Otter Classic (Norba race in Monterey). The former is March 31st and the latter is April 15th. If anybody wants to carpool or do the whole camping thing, let me know! I don't want to go up alone. Also, if people are planning to do these races, I think we should plan a training ride. I have to get in perfect shape, because I just found out I'm riding for HB Jax this summer (Rim Nordic)! Anybody up for altitude training?
damn sarah, glad to see you're getting serious with this racing stuff... you'll never be a roadie again! :bang:
Where is Cobb? And, when are you planning on doing altitude training? I can do long rides during the week (usually Mon or Thurs) easier than on weekends. Oh, and see you at Sea Otter, if I don't get to meet you before then...we'll have to designate a time/place for everyone to meet, as I don't know a lot of people from here yet and doubt I'd recognize anyone.
Thanks guys. Yeah, not so much a roadie ... anymore. El Tour De Tucson is the only roadie race I plan on consistently doing (109 mile city perimeter race). It's great base training, because it's in November. And my dad's loan company pays our race fees, because they're the main sponsor. i'm going to try to get some of you to do it next year! watch out! I'm not sure where Cobb is. I think it's 7.5 hours north ... i have a little sister in san fran. if people want to go, i could ask her whether we could crash at her place. shouldn't be a problem. The race is pretty new ... 80 people last year. so you're not sure mario? do you know anything about this race? it's listed on norba. Chelle ... after Counting Coup, I'm going to get pretty serious about altitude training. I have mondays off myself ... I'm thinking Big Bear (like "the 3 bitches" trail), since that is where the Rim Nordic series is. I also probably try switching back to my geared bike, at least for some of the rides. I'd really like someone to go with. So if you're up for it, let me know.
I'm in. I just had to check a few things. Sounds like a fast course. About the same dist and vert as the Hurkey Creek course. That's about all I know right now but I'll be doing a little more "research" this weekend. If possible I'd like to swing by the Laguna Seca course for some data collection for the 24 hour race later in the year.
Hey Sauce, If you are really serious about altitude training, especially for Rim Nordic, get back on the road bike. You most likely know that is the quickest way to get the "high" quality miles in. Start at Angelus Oaks, roll up to Big Bear, than loop around the lake to Running Springs and head back. That is my training loop to prep for Rim Nordic- don't tell anyone:lol: - and plan on hitting it most Sundays until the race season is in full swing. Also consider driving to Big Bear and then cruising to Running Springs and back, it keeps you over the 7000 ft mark most of the time, just keep that BPM reving! If you want to preview the Rim Nordic courses, let me know....I 've suffered on all of them:bang:
that sounds like a great plan ... wow. thanks. but what heart rate zone(s) should i do these rides in? won't my HR be lower at altitude? i'm so new to this. how many miles is that loop? yup - swinging by laguna seca is fine by me. cool.
The top loop of Big Bear to Running Springs and back is between 50-60 miles, just depends how far you go into Running Springs and if you go around the lake or not. The big monster loop of Angelus Oaks to Runnning Springs and back is brutal, an "easy" 90-100 miles but thankfully the end is downhill, for the most part! As far as BPM go, if you don't already have a HRM, they are a great training/riding tool. Doing the big loop would be best at 50%-60% max, not too much exertion, just a steady endurance pace. The top loop is a little more suited to intervals and recovery, hitting 80%-90% for short bursts, simulating race pace....it can be a bit overwhelming but makes sense in the end:lol:
