How about this? All noob's can only post to "Introduce Yourself". They better write something believable. Noob's must earn "thanks" by 3 or more Senior Members before they can post to other forums. edit: And their posts can not have hyperlinks!
I think George is working on a new sign up process to eliminate the spammers. We're catching about 20 a day before they can post but some still slip through though.
Do you guys have that thing when people sign up that says something like "enter the letters shown below" and it has a few random letters all blurry so spambots can't enter them. Or are the spammers real people advertising their own websites?
The sign up process does involve the distorted letters but the spambots can easily get past that. In some cases it's human sign-ups, some are computer generated. Hopefully George can get it sorted quickly because it's becoming a full time job trying to weed them out.
Abui...I agree...we simply need a MTBer Turing Test...ok maybe that is not so simple...I think the restriction to the Intro forum might be a good start.
Okay, just having read/posted in this today.....along comes new user "cannondale4sale" Go check out his 25 posts in oh, 15 minutes just so he can put up his add. Now he may be legit, but his posts are meaningless to this point today....
haha I totally just posted something in his origional post asking why he can't post in the marketplace.
Yeah, he asked why he could not, then got the answer and started posting one or two word comments that meant nothing in any thread he can find.....
the trials site i vist cough cough, has a random question everyone that rides trials should know there's is "who is the largest French manufacture of trials bikes " we could do the same thing just more mountain bike oriented
Yea, I almost sent him a PM telling to stop spamming his worthless posts just so he could post in the marketplace. And he should either be a meaningful member or leave the site, but I figured since I couldn't do anything to stop him if he didn't listen, it might not work out so well.
